Ticket to Ride - Märklin Edition is the third instalment in Days of Wonder's best-selling board game series that has won over 15 international game awards, including the prestigious Spiel des Jahres.
The board map for the Märklin Edition is based on a map of Germany and introduces Passengers and Merchandise to the Ticket to Ride game play. Passengers are used to pick up merchandise worth different numbers of points along the routes that they claim. Varying stacks of merchandise tokens with different point values are placed next to the different cities on the map. Players can place one of their 3 Passenger tokens on any city along a route that they claim.
On his game turn, the player can choose to then move one of his passengers from the city it currently occupies along any or all of his continuous routes, picking up Merchandise Tokens from each city he moves through. Of course he'll always take the highest remaining tokens. The point total of the tokens is then added to his score. Other game play changes are the vertical orientation of the German map, and instead of a bonus for longest route, the 10 point bonus card goes to the player who completes the most Destination Tickets

A DVD introducing players to the Märklin line of model trains is included. Passenger figures are used to pick up merchandise tokens worth different numbers of points along the routes that they claim. The player who completes the most destination tickets receives a 10 point bonus (instead of the base game's longest route bonus).

The third Ticket to Ride game relies on the same basic rules as the original. But as with the European version, there are a number of twists to add interest to this new edition.
The map is now based on Germany with links to surrounding countries. The design of the cards has been changed to feature the products of the Marklin model railway company (the equivalent to Britain's Hornby), and very beautiful they are too!
As regards amendments to the rules, there are no tunnels, nor ferries, nor stations that feature in the second (Europe) version of Ticket to Ride. Instead, cities have points, and when you play a passenger along a route, you collect the points of each city the passenger passes through. Each player only has three passengers, so you must use your skill to place him correctly, as big points can be won.
We have found this version of the game to be just as addictive as the others, so we can heartily recommend it.

We bought this after having played the original Ticket to Ride Europe. the main principle of the game is the same, but without the tunnel routes, (which could be hard to grasp at first), and using passengers instead. My dad's a huge fan of the german rail system, so loves this game, as it seems to inspire his next trips as well. The cards are each individually illustrated.
When I bought the game, a pack of the cards was missing, but the customer support offered by Days of Wonder is brilliant, so they sent some replacements straight away.

Another fantastic version of the Days of Wonder Classic.
This series of games has us addicted. This one adds passengers, and freight to the mix. More complicated than the Original (USA) version, and the Europe version. If you want a gentle introduction to the series, I'd buy one of those instead... or play this one innitially without introducing the passengers & freight.
A good point about this version is it has two sets of coloured pieces (purple & white) which arn't in the usa / europe games, so it can be used to expand the number of players up to 7 if you already have the five other sets of pieces from one of those versions. (This is how ours came, though I guess the manufacturer may change the colours in the boxes at will...)
