This is a fine expansion to the memoir '44 series. It provides a whole new army - a nicely crafted set of Russian figures in Red, and provides an appropriate level of increase in components and complexity. There are a few new rules, 8 new scenarios, (plus bonuses for those with terrain pack or overlord expansions) and plenty of new terrain tiles, as well as more badges and extra bits and pieces.
As ever, the visual quality of the terriain is very high, although to properly get the best effect, many of these need to be combined with the winter/desert board expansion (available separately).
As ever, each scenario comes with a brief historical overview, but the main educational benefit, is the opening up of windows into new areas. The first campaign has already inspired me to read more about the Russo-Finnish Winter war.
The new components also give plenty of scope for creating your own scenarios, and given how popular this expansion seems to have proved, there are plenty of ready-made fan scenarios on the official website.
All-in-all, a good buy.
