Synopsis
Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith's graphic novel claws its way onto the screen with this terrifying thriller. HARD CANDY helmer David Slade directs Josh Hartnett and Melissa George who play residents of an Alaskan town that is being overtaken by vampires. Sam Raimi (SPIDER-MAN) goes back to his horror movie roots to produce this film.

Genuinely scary throughout, even better if you have the right set up, surround sound speakers envelope you in the feeling of being right there in this isolated town. Acting is very good. Josh hartnett pulls his role as sheriff very well. This film reminds me of one of the true vampire films "the lost boys" although completely different films they both have the same feel about it, Best vampire film in decades...

Best horror movie in ages and the blu ray release is one of sharpest ones yet a good demo if you want to show off your system

Forget the camp vampires of Fright Night or Interview With The Vampire and the political vampires of Blade and Underworld, these bad boys and gals are the real deal. Ghastly in appearance, totally immoral and cold killers they are a cross between mutant humans and...something else from your worst nightmare.

Their prey are the townsfolk of Barrow, Alaska as the town endures the endless night of northern mid-winter. Josh Hartnett as the local sheriff leads a band of survivors from the initial attack on the town. They dwindle one by one as they get picked off or, as they discover the nature of their antagonists in battle against the enemy.

Very little is left to the imagination in this all out gore-fest. (Not for the squeamish).

The climax has a rather unexpected twist, with Josh Hartnett taking his own walk of honour.

The Blu-Ray transfer is superb, crystal clear picture and while sound is only Dolby Digital the screams of the dying accompanied by the eerie score work the speakers well.

Recommended.
