Without a doubt: Fantastic documentary including in-depth interviews with both Roger en Brian covering every possible angle of their career. Very much worth watching. However: don't be fooled with the description on this item (dvd-version) - it does NOT, repeat: NOT include all the extra's as mentioned here, sadly enough. I was quite upset & disappointed upon receiving the dvd. When watching, it only has the 7 bonus-videos and the last 3 titles of the extra's (Miracle, Innuendo, Made In Heaven). Very, very strange indeed .... I'm now thinking, I only bought half an item ..... because I know there's more out there. Upon investigating the release on the web, I discovered that the dvd is (only) 160 minutes and the blu-ray is 221 minutes, so I'm guessing that only the blu-ray has ALL the extra's as mentioned in the description. Still, disappointing when buying the dvd. ;-(

This has certainly been a long time coming. An official in depth history of Queen on a pristine new format. Wonderful. Except.....its the documentary already aired on BBC2 earlier this year. Which was great, dont get me wrong but a Queen blu ray is surely a chance to get absolutely everything out there. Even allowing for the extra hour or so on this blu edition there is still loads more out there.

I still fondly remember my copies of Queen 'The Magic Years' on VHS which was a staggeringly in depth look back on the bands career at the time of 'A Kind of Magic.' This was an extensive 3 volume set with everything the true Queen fan could want. This, for me, pales slightly in comparison, even to the memory of that creaky old set.

Its now almost 30 years since that VHS set and a lot has happened within Queen. The comeback album 'The Miracle', 'Innuendo', Freddies passing, the tribute concert, Made In Heaven, Paul Rogers?!@ and now we hear access has been granted for some of the songs done with Michael Jackson to be worked on. The Queen story is seemingly neverending!

So........a really great release.......but could have been soooooooo much more.

This is a great documentary on a great band. Well edited, thoroughly entertaining and interesting, very moving and a real glimpse into the band - I'm a recent fan of Queen and I was overjoyed to find that I could relate to all the band members as they seem to be genuinely friendly and open minded people - not at all pompous. Brian May and Roger Taylor are the main interviewees and the ones I liked the most compared to some of the self-important drones who are also interviewed in this documentary and played zero part in the creative process.

However, be under no mistake, this is but a "glimpse". I suppose I'm a little greedy when it comes to things that I like but the whole musicianship aspect of the band was glossed over throughout the documentary. Where and how did Brian May learn to play such good guitar whilst being an advanced student? What was Freddy's relationship to the piano and when did he start playing and composing? What about his singing? Did he take lessons as a kid? In short, where did the musical genius of Queen come from? Such musical craftsmanship does not grow on trees - these guys were dedicated as hell and played and worked very hard to get to this level. But they also had that special "x-factor" which is alluded to in the documentary but not really considered in its own right.

Pretty much all of these questions are left unanswered in Days of our Lives - yet as a player of Queen piano scores I'm stunned by their sophistication and complexity (for popular music at least - the Beatles are a doddle next to Queen when it comes to playing them on the piano). Also, as a negative I mentioned earlier, I found some of the contributors very self-important and uptight and they seemed to have little to do with Queen anyway.

These shortcomings aside, I came out of the documentary with a fresh love for the band and music in general which can't be a bad thing. I also now have a basic understanding of their career path, the ups and downs, and the many struggles they had to face. But I agree with some of the reviewers - this is a fairly hasty look at the band and I would have liked a little more insight into the musicians that were Queen rather than their merely their psychology and what they were thinking at the time. But to each his own.

Four stars.
