When this was released I listened to it, as I would every Van album, loving his music as I do, and was not only disappointed but appalled at the way he was beginning to sound like an Irish showband. What saddened me most was his continuous use of the insipid voice of Brian Kennedy, who sings second lead on most songs (and on the follow-up album, the slightly better The Healing Game) spoiling what might have been a fairly good VM record.
Van was back on top with 1999`s Back on Top - a terrific album - but my feeling is that this one`s for people who don`t usually like Van Morrison. (It sold a lot, presumably, dare I suggest, to those who hadn`t much liked Van before.)
Approach with caution.
