In 1958 West Ham United emerged from a 26-year hibernation outside top flight football, storming back as Second Division champions wiht 101 goals. In their second game back they beat the mighty Wolves, the eventual champions. In the same month they overpowered Manchester United, who would be runners-up. And in the spring of 1959 they shook fortress Highbury with a glorious 2-1 victory over the team that that would take third place.
