Product Description

Nysa is an up and coming DNA retrieval expert well known in the scientific community for her advances in the technology used in the field. After being recruited to work on a secret project by an extraordinarily wealthy and mysterious benefactor, Nysa is moved to a hidden lab outside Denver, Colorado. Isolated from the world and forbidden from contact with anyone outside the facility, she is unaware of the strange occurrences that begin to plague the planet. Her fiance Alastair becomes concerned about her welfare and, with the help of his father, begins a frantic search for her. They soon come to realize that their quest is producing more questions than answers, and some very unsettling questions at that.

Only one person, the silent man financing the operation, knows the true nature of the experiment. Although unaware of his true identity, Alastair comes to realize his foe will stop at nothing to see the experiment through to its completion.

Last things first 10 Aug 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
Last things first - I loved the ending. I can see why it might not appeal to every reader. But for me, it was perfect.

I really enjoyed the book. It was recommended on the Kindle board forums and I read the ebook version, though it's also available in paperback. It's a good story that raced along - I read it in a couple of sittings - and I couldn't guess where it was going, though other readers might.

I'm going to find it hard to say too much without spoiling the story but there are apocalyptic, thriller, sci-fi and love story elements in there, and all are neatly tied up as the book finishes. One of the tags for the book says 'techno thriller' and that seems a pretty good way of describing it.

I'm looking forward to the next one by this author.

Fast and compelling 13 Aug 2010

What would happen if advanced DNA splicing and cloning techniques fell into the wrong hands? Headhunted for a project she knows little about, scientist Nysa becomes an unwitting accessory.

Days' End is a fast and compelling read with a shocking but satisfying ending.

This is probably just me, but it took me a little while to work out what the POV/first person switch at the end of the early chapters was all about. It didn't detract from the story, though, and overall it was a most enjoyable read, not to mention excellent value.

I actually really enjoyed this book except for the last page. Well the last paragraph, really. It just ended! The main oh so obvious plot line ended the book and all the other loose ends were just left hanging. Without giving anything away it's why did this happen? Who did that to the Dr. Leyden? Who is the mysterious person invisibly interferring with Scario's plans in the middle of the book? Lots of loose ends.

I gave it a two star rating because of the highly unsatisfactory ending. There's room for another book here (but that would be a dirty trick since this isn't really stand-alone under those circumstances). The ending actually ruined it for me since it wasn't a proper ending at all.

The author also persistently confuses passed and past. 'If he can get passed the guards.' Surely the right word is past?

Good story spoilt be a weak and obvious ending. I wouldn't mind the obvious conclussion of that bit if the story had gone on and finished up properly. It was if the author either ran out of steam or just couldn't think what to write after the birth. There was so much scope for after left unexplored.
