5.0 out of 5 stars A gripping crime thriller with some science fiction twists, 16 Jul 2008
By Dr. Amanda Kear - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
It is labelled as science fiction, but this book is really a brilliant portrait of a cop and police procedure in a backwater town in New Mexico where nepotism and corruption are the order of the day. He's trying to solve - amongst other things - a murder. The crisis that precipitated the murder has a science fictional cause, but that's largely irrelevant for the bulk of the book. And neither solving the crime - nor the barriers put in his way by the bad guys - involve any swirly things, improbable SF gizmos or mad scientist motivations. This is a great portrait of human nature in the face of the status quo being overturned.
