The clever idea that Collins Publishers had (A Day in the Life of....) seems best represented by this eighth in the series; the photographers came from all over the globe for the April 29, 1988 shoot. This volume, said to be produced on a MAC, includes a bio on each photog., credits six corporate sponsors (Kodak, BankAmerica, Hyatt Regency, United, MCI, Hertz), as well as the CA Dept. of Commerce; also listed are staff, friends, advisors, and consultants. The best way to think of this "coffee table" volume is to consider the diversity of the state, even 20-some years ago, and the geographic variation that has led to such diversity. A map bug on nearly every two-page spread (many photos bleed off the page and are bright & clear) shows the reader what time of day and where in CA the photos were taken. In one section, the methodology and guidelines for the artists are reproduced. This picture book has a non-distracting amount of text, easy to read, not too heavy to handle/hold, and makes a great gift. Interesting that it was printed in Japan; in today's world, it would be printed in China, as so many similar volumes have been in the past decade. Photo reproduction here is A+. Photography and editing: A+++.
