This video has been very popular with our family. It's packed full of songs and keeps the children entertained throughout with interesting changes in location. There are visits to ships, castles, costume hire shops etc. Each set of songs is linked with a series of clues which eventualy lead to a surprise 'treasure'. Dave Benson Phillips is his usual extrovert self, which results in lots of giggles, and the children featured in the video are very natural in their performance and not overly cute. I especially liked the words being shown on screen (perfect for singing along), and also the fact that the songs include some traditional favourites which are not often found in other collections, such as 'Lavender's Blue', 'Lucy Locket' and 'London Bridge is Falling Down'.

At 43 minutes long, this video is quintessentially English; song after song is regurgitated unemotionally and in a politically correct conservative manner. The children are choreographed to perfection, all the singing is chorus-style with no variation and what was initially a good idea is let down by an overbearing production style. The producer should have butted out and let these children have a laugh! Even the 'Special Animation' is stilted and the humour forced.
The stiff direction and an overbearing producer show through this transparent excuse for a children's video. When your children are young enough to enjoy the songs and delight in the Very Brief glimpse of a train and a butterfly, fair enough - they will enjoy it, but not repeatedly because they will get annoyed by the lyrics (which they are too young to read) flashing on the screen. When they are old enough to read the onscreen lyrics, they will find the production patronising and childish, and will be quick to turn to the X Box. You really can't win so don't bother!
The only redeeming feature is the star of the show, Dave Benson Phillips who is a consummate professional right to the very end. We see him eventually being driven to distraction by the tight control of the producer and the camera crew do manage to sneak in few takes of Dave doing a chicken dance in the rain behind the bushes.. but then we get the feeling that the producer has given everyone a stern telling off.
