From Amazon.co.uk

"Jen is a cheerleader and Jack's on the football team. I got sane and everyone else went crazy?" That's how Andie (Meredith Monroe) sums up the topsy-turvy beginning to the third season of Dawson's Creek, in which nothing seems to be as it should and the series takes a major turn. It's junior year at Capeside High, and Jack (Kerr Smith), the town's resident gay teen, is indeed on the football team, and Jen (Michelle Williams) finds herself the object of unexpected and unwelcome popularity among her fellow students, especially the freshman quarterback (Michael Pitt). Pacey (Joshua Jackson) finds that his relationship with Andie can't be restored, and Dawson (James Van Der Beek) and Joey (Katie Holmes), after the events of last year, both think it's for the best that they're no longer together--they just never think it at the same time. Significant events include the friends starting to date outside their circle, Dawson's giving up some of his aspirations, a ! crisis for the school's new principal, a college tour, and the openings of the Potter Bed & Breakfast and Leery Fresh Fish. But the Dawson-Joey relationship is still the heart of the Creek, and it comes to a head in one of the series' most memorable episodes, "The Longest Day," and then the season finale. Even in its first season without series creator Kevin Williamson, Dawson's Creek still had plenty of punch.

On the DVDs, executive producer Paul Stupin does his usual commentary track for two episodes, and he's joined by Kerr Smith. They discuss the series itself, Smith's character, and Smith's subsequent career more than the events of the episodes. The second-season DVD set disappointed many fans by replacing a large portion of the music, and that trend continues in the third season, most surprisingly in the loss of Paula Cole's theme song. Instead, the opening credits feature Jann Arden's "Run Like Mad," which was used briefly in the international broadcast. Stupin explains the switch as an attempt to do something different and creative, but then admits there was also "a bit of an economic reality." Fortunately, the DVDs do have John Lennon's "Imagine" and Mary Beth Maziarz's "Daydream Believers"--songs that in dramatic context simply could not have been replaced--and it could be argued that a veteran viewer might skip the opening credits anyway. Still, for many fans, the music made Dawson's Creek what it was, and without all of it--especially the theme song--the DVDs seem like a compromise rather than a permanent keepsake. --David Horiuchi

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Dawson's Ever - thanks to Pacey 30 Jun 2005
Format:DVD
I totally agree with all the other reviews. Season 3 is the best season by far of Dawson's Creek, and this is thanks to the character of Pacey Witter. He is the best character in any season of Dawson's Creek. Mainly, I think, because he is the most believable. He acts the way most teen boys do. Dawson is just too girly and emotional. The chemistry between Joey and Pacey is fantastic, she just doesn't have the same chemistry with Dawson. I haven't seen the programme's finale yet, so I was a bit gutted to see a spoiler on here. But, I have to say, I am so pleased that they chose this outcome. It wouldn't have been right any other way. Dawson's may be a bit cheesy and sometimes unrealistic, but I love it. I just wish teenage boys as nice as this existed when I was at school!! Pacey's Creek Forever!!

5.0 out of 5 stars ITS HERE!!! 10 July 2004
By Sophie
Format:DVD
It's here finally. I'm afraid there are a few changes Kevin Williamson left and DC got a bit well...crazy? Jack's a football player, Jen's a cheerleader, I got sane and everyone else got crazy?! Well that's how Andie describes it. I'm afraid Andie makes a mistake and it results in a brakeup. But who would have guessed it, the bickering couple of the century get it together. Yes JOEY & PACEY! 'Im gonna count to ten ten and I'm going to kiss you, and if you don't want me to you're gonna have to stop me...' Pacey also makes the most romantic gesture ever, he buys Joey a wall! I think you may have to watch it to find out what i mean by it being a romantic gesture...

PS On the american website it says on the reviews that the theme tune has been changed. BEWARE.

5.0 out of 5 stars pacey's time to shine 3 Jun 2005
Format:DVD
well to start with this season is undoubtedly one of, if not the best season among the six seasons. with no anxiety of starting school (season one) or finishing school (season four) or more adult worries (seasons five and six) the creek kids get on with living their angst ridden lives with little troubles other than their own to worry about. slightly more polished and grown up than season two this season shows the characters at the most important years of their lives (any dawsons creek fans would probably agree)

but this season holds something extra for fans of pacey. fans that believe the series would have been better given a non character specific name like 'the creek', rather than 'dawsons creek' a name which frequently forces the writers to come back to the title character when really the show operates best as a 100% co-starring cast rather than one star and its supporting actors.

pacey is my personal favourite of the creek characters and in this season the writers really put him on the screen. been the first to have a serious high school relationship (with andie in season two) to havin the most intense, and possibly most grown up relationship (with joey in season four) and finally ending the show as the happily ever after couple (joey again in season finale), i believe pacey is more the heart of the dawsons creek relationship ethos rather just the comic relief dawson fans think hes there for. this season shows him first getting over his break up with andie, and then beautifully falling for joey in a well crafted and believable run of episodes. and in between the two pacey lights up the screen as undoubtedly the star of the season. add to that jens new relationship, jacks new life style and dawsons one-off time as a well crafted supporting storyline, this season is one of the gems of a generally amazing series that speaks to its audience in a way noone else can.

if your a fan of dawsons creek you want this season, if your a fan of pacey (or joshua jackson as an actor) you need this season, and if you don't like dawsons creek why are you looking at dawsons creek dvds?
