Product Description

He has no name but is known by many. He is a Demon, surrounded by the chaos inherent in his own shadowy nature, and it is the magic of Shadow that is killing him. Unwilling to accept his imminent demise, the nameless Demon embarks on a mission to find the witches who may hold his cure. He discovers the alternative to his death may be a greater price than he is willing to accept, and what is acceptance in a world full of Humans?

In the company of the immortal prisoner he has liberated, the Demon struggles to survive, understand who he is, and shape a future that once seemed impossible. It is, for better or worse, a new beginning, a Dawning in this foreign world.

Character-driven, solid first entry 23 Jan 2012
By C. Baker - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Dawning is the story of the Demon, a winged, clawed being who can also control the elements, and his love-hate relationship with Eraekryst, an immortal Ilangien he rescues from a mountain prison in the first chapter. Together, they cope with tragedy and joy, but mostly tragedy. The Demon in particular has a lot to deal with in this book, but as awful as this sounds, you'll enjoy his struggles. I don't want to spoil anything for new readers, but he becomes a better person along the way, and he still has a long way to go at the end of the book.

Which leads me to my biggest issue with Black Earth: Dawning - it's the first book in a trilogy, and the second and third books aren't out yet! As a fan of Raven's Heart, the authors' previous work, I couldn't wait to pick this one up. I was disappointed that some of my favorite characters from that book weren't in this one, but I was still excited to read more and discover new characters in this new series starter. Now I can't wait to find out what happens to them in the next two books.

Fast pace, great characters 25 Jan 2012
By Richard Moore - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
If you've read "Raven's Heart", you know the quality of the Verish's writing. Although "Dawning" is written in a slightly different style, that high quality is still there. Unlike "Raven's Heart", this story focuses mainly on one character, The Demon. The plot moves forward quickly, but rarely in a straight line, with the unexpected twists that have you wondering what's going to happen next to the Demon. And things do happen. A lot of things happen.
As for the characters, about all I can say is that I know some of these people. At least, I seem to. The characters act, and react, as you would expect real people to. Sometimes well, sometimes not so well, sometimes cleverly, sometimes you want to reach out and shake some sense into someone. (And I'll guarantee that, as well-intentioned as he may be, at some point you'll want to just smack Erik upside his head.)
But if I say anything more it would spoil it for you. Read the book, and you too will be anxiously awaiting Book 2.

Great story, can't wait for the next book 29 Mar 2012
By B. Allen - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I was looking for something to kill time with until a book I was waiting to come out finally had. I picked this by chance and was captivated from the onset. The accents are a little difficult to figure out how to read at first, but eventually your mind will pick up on them.

All in all, a fantastic story and I was extremely disappointed when I realized that books 2 and 3 had not been published yet! Now I have yet another series I have to wait on and find another book to read while waiting for the next book in this series to come out.

One note, at the end of the book is a glossary of term and characters. I would have liked to have known this at the onset so I could reference is, but the Kindle starts on chapter one, not the TOC, so I never saw it was there until I read to the end. So if you want to know who a character is or where a place is situated, check the glossary at the back!
