Having bought and worn out Davina's first DVD (The Power of 3) I have to admit I was really looking forward to the second. I could hardly walk after doing the first DVD, but after sticking to it, I found it to be such fun and a really good workout.

This new workout is just as challenging and possibly even better than the first as the workouts fit in well with my lifestyle as a Mum to a young son who doesn't have time to hit the gym three times a week. I love the option to crank up the music and shut Davina up-sorry Davina!

I would make sure you watch it all the way through just to perfect the moves as the idea is for the workout to be short, but effective. Here's to a flat tummy and a J-LO bum.

Good, but not great 22 Dec 2005

I had Davina's first workout and have used it a lot so I was looking forward to this one.
This DVD is split into three workouts which we are told need only be done once each a week.
The first one is a Pump section which combines weights with leg work. This time, instead of doing squats etc then a weights section, we do them together. This one is very good and I can already feel the effects.
The second is a Boxing Cardio section which has a series of boxing and kicking moves. This is a fairly intensive section, and quite fun to do.
The third is called Core Stability and that has poses like the plank and breathing exercises. Some of it was surprisingly difficult and will take a bit of practice.
Each session lasts 30 minutes, but seems to go much faster.
However, I do have some quibbles with it.
One is that often things aren't explained very well, so in the first section Davina will sometimes move into the next exercise without any warning. This, I suppose, won't matter once you are used to the workout but I found it a bit annoying.
The second is that in the boxing section we are not always told which foot or hand to use and it's difficult to tell from what they are doing because the cameraman often changes angles. It is quite confusing.
Davina on the back of the DVD tells us we only need to do each section once a week, but during the workout or on the extras she tells us more than once that she had a really hard workout of an hour with either Mark or Jackie - so I think if we wanted a body like Davina's we'd need more than 1.5 hours a week.
The recipes that are on the DVD as extras were a bit weak - I thought Davina would be showing us how to make them but the ingredients are just typed up on the screen and very difficult to read.
However, I did enjoy it overall and I'm glad I bought it.

I love Davina's earlier DVD and always feel good (if exhausted) having done it, but the 1 hour thing is a big obstacle for me - it's just toooo easy to say "haven't got the time/energy today" so I rarely use it.
This one has proved mostly ideal - half an hour is long enough to give you a decent workout, and short enough to find yourself doing it easily every day. It doesn't leave me wiped out, like her earlier DVD, so I have energy to go off and do whatever I need to do, or do it before work even. Amazing!
The first section left me unable to walk the next day, in spite of only being half an hour, so you really feel like you're getting fit. The second section felt like I wasn't using any particular muscles and only really getting an aerobic workout, but the next day my arms, shoulders and back ached (in a good way - muscles being worked!). But the third section was the let down for me - a bit of Pilates and Yoga-ish positions, but not as good as the real thing. I still ached the next day, but the workout was too sporadic - a few really full on excercises interspersed with a lot of sligtly limp stuff.
For this kind of core stability workout, I'm going back to the brilliant MTV Pilates, which is also half an hour long (well, 35 mins) and truly does what Davina's Core section didn't do for me. But two out of three ain't bad, and I'll be doing the first two regularly.

great - she is the best
Great. As always. I especially like that it is an all in one workout and just 1/2 hour so I can fit it into my busy life.
