Review

***2010 BMA Book Awards - Highly Commended - Medicine category*** "The illustrations are excellent and easy to learn from. The inclusion of real pictures of clinical signs is a useful learning tool. This is an ideal book formedical students and junior doctors to revise clinical medicine and refer to on the wards. It summarises key information in a logical manner, with excellent illustrations and images. The dense layout of the text is the weakest feature.” Judges comments

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent but succinct book 14 Nov 2011
By Jess121
Format:Vinyl Bound
As a new clinical medical student it seemed to be the widely held opinion that to get through clinical years it was necessary to use the Oxford Handbook for all the facts and baby Kumar and Clark for revision and understanding. This was all very well until I checked a copy of baby Kumar and Clark out of the library to discover that I simply didn't warm to the book. In desperation, as it really is necessary to rely on some kind of 'pocketbook' to pare down the masses of information available in the larger tomes, I picked up a copy of mini-Davidson's instead. It was the best chance decision that I have made in a long time, I warmed immediately to the layout of the book, the diagrams are excellent and easy to understand and all the vital topics have been covered in good, but not overwhelming, depth. I had purchased mine own copy within weeks and found it invaluable around exam time. All in all I would highly recommend that you give this book a chance, you might just find it as essential as I did. As for me, I'm now looking into other Davidson's books and think it's highly likely that I'll be buying more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very handy Indeed... 2 Dec 2010
Format:Vinyl Bound
This book is a perfect companion to the larger edition. It's impossible to take the big one around, and thats when this comes into play. I use it whenever i'm on the train or free in the hospital. It is also perfect for a quick read-over before starting the topic in the big one, or for last-minute revision.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great 9 Jan 2014

If you’re in the emergency medicine business then this is a book to have as a reference. It is a good base to gather your thoughts and help with differential diagnosis.

4.0 out of 5 stars Davidson' Essentials of Medicine 3 Nov 2010
Format:Vinyl Bound|Verified Purchase
This book makes a nice change from all the bulky biological and medical text books I'm used to for my subject. As a student who commutes into London, having something that fits in my bag is a real bonus. It's nicely laid out and I found the chapter on Therapeutics and Prescriptions is very helpful. I did think the chapter on cardiovascular disease was a little thin on detail. However, this may be to be expected as this is the "essentials" rather than a "complete" book on Medicine. I'd definitely recommend it as portable medical reference text.
