This is a must have Schumann disc, esp if these 3 pieces fit your CD collection. The two Davidsbundlertanze books are rendered with fine phrasing and aplomb. So critical to Schumann's piano music is the fingering to reveal the micro-phrasing bar to bar, measure to measure. The piano needs to be performed such that the upper and lower registers are fully represented, without resorting to weakness, overly tender fingering or over sentamentalize the music. These are entirely successful interpretations.
A warm start to the nine Forest Scenes (Waldszenen) is provided with the remaining pieces and performances of the musical journey well phrased, tuneful etc
Haefligers Fantasiestuck Op.111 is flat out extraordinary and robust with skill show on each of the 5 Piano Piecs. The phrasing on track 39 has to be heard to be believed. Clarity, clear Schumann voicing, instant changes to phrasing happen as they should. This Sony digital recording dispenses the utter nonsense that digital piano recordings are clangy, harsh or glaring. The sound capture here is full of string presence, piano soundboard realism, dynamic range, tonality. A firm recommendation either in the original album with forest/people cover art or the repackaged version.
