I loved the book. For many my age David Nixon was a TV superstar and this book brings all those memories back to life again. After reading the book I immediately went onto YouTube and saw many of the illusions described in the book and watched with sheer delight.
David brought to his performances what many magicians (with the exception of Derren Brown) miss, namely personality and charisma. For a lot of magicians the trick is the most important thing, for David Nixon it was about connecting with his audience and the magic was just the medium he did it with.
I found the book a joy to read and his journey from amateur magician to ENSA entertainer entertaining the troops during World War 2 to TV stardom fascinating. It's obvious from the accounts of various chapters of his life he was a much loved gentle man.
