Book Description

2 April 2002

David Leadbetter, the game’s greatest and most successful golf coach, presents a compendium of golf and golf instruction, drawing on a lifetime’s experience of playing and teaching the game.

For more than 30 years, David Leadbetter has played and then taught the game of golf to an ever-expanding world audience, who have devoured his teachings in book and video form. Now, for the first time he compresses all the knowledge he has gathered over the years and presents it in this one volume.

Leadbetter, who came to world prominence in the late 1980s after he helped Nick Faldo dismantle and then rebuild his swing, has also coached players of the calibre of Nick Price, Greg Norman, Ernie Els and most recently, Lee Westwood. In the process he has earned himself an unrivalled reputation as ‘the man’ to remedy a troubled golf swing. In 1999, top American magazine Golf Digest voted him the best coach of all-time, and few would argue.

Leadbetter’s 100% Golf is the defining point of a lifetime’s theories, teachings, tips and drills. It is a thorough compendium of knowledge, detailing every aspect of the swing and game in general, in the minutest detail. From alignment, ball position and driving, to fitness, mental toughness and problem lies, this volume, Leadbetter’s seminal work, contains everything the practising golfer will ever need to know.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Fundamentals Instruction & Reference. 9 July 2002
By A Customer
This book is a truly staple of the golf instruction genre for golfers of all levels. Fundamentals are clearly covered ( as they should be ) such as grip, stance, aim, rhythm & tempo as well as more advanced topics such as coping with different lies, practise drills, short game, putting and course management. As a single-figures handicapper I refer to this frequently. Golf is a game of fundamentals more than anything else & this is a book to keep those fundamentals in place for a sound, solid golf game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good all round book on Golf's fundamentals 24 Sep 2002
By A Customer
I'd already come across David Leadbetter through golf magazines, so I knew roughly what to expect. Overall I was pleased with the purchase.
Mr Leadbetter starts off by covering set-up, then describes the full swing in a step by step manner. He goes on to describe the basic shots in golf (drive, fairway wood, mid-iron, short-iron), followed by a section on the short game. Each section includes some useful drills to re-inforce the teaching. The recurring theme throughout the book is being able to swing the club freely and synchronising the movement of the hands, arms and body.
The book seems to cover all of the fundamentals of golf, in a fairly clear and concise manner. I'd read a review of the book in the Sunday times implying it was very technical - I honestly found it the opposite, fairly easy to read and apply.
My only criticism (and the only reason I'm rating it as a 4) was the final chapter, which is a mish-mash of various tips and ideas in no particular order. Whilst there are some useful things in there, I found it (unlike the rest of the book) a little unstructured.
That aside, I would say if you want an all-round explanation of Golfs fundamentals along with some good drills, then this is a good buy.

What a book. Golf stripped to its essentials. Great advice, clearly expressed. And I didn't realise how well off-course exercises could work. Best penny I've ever spent.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great second book 19 Feb 2010

I took up golf recently and for any recent, ahem, addicts, I recommend Learn To Play Golf in a Weekend by Edward Craig. 100% Golf is a great second book.

Without getting into swing planes and geometry and weight shift too much, Leadbetter will help you take your game to the next level. This is a book for the new player who has played a few rounds, knows the basics, and now wants to advance.

Word of warning: Look, really look, at the photos. There are things Leadbetter explains and some he doesn't. Everything is critical. For instance, the grip. It's a fingers thing, not a palm thing. Draw lines on your glove if you have to.

Or subtle changes in hand position. For approach shots the ball is centered in your stance, but your hands are closer to your left knee (for right-hand golfers). As I said, subtle - yet critical.

Spend time with this book. The pictures are clear and simple, the text very readable. This is not something you want breeze through on your way to the next golf book. It's a keeper for sure. 5 stars.

This is Leadbetter's best overall book. It goes through all phases of the swing and gives good analysis of how to get to to certain positions without thinking about it.. It also gives a lot of instructions about the short game.
