Product Description

Synopsis

Violence is often the subject of David Hughes's drawings. His methods are reminiscent of the well known anti-war illustrations of George Grosz and Otto Dix. By painting parts of the body in very bright colours on thick carton and holding these roughly cut out parts together with flat clips, he shows human beings as lay figures, subjugated to strange powers. About one quarter of the works that are shown in this publication depict British public figures or deal with British political issues. From subjects such as the Royal family to the NHS and public health, David Hughes is not afraid of using artistic means to discover deplorable states of affair in his own country.

Wonderful to see Hughes thought provoking and graphically striking work in a volume (instead of in magazines). Love it. Recommend it for anyone interested in editorial illustration. There is an English translation to the German text side by side, so don't be worried about being able to read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is great 27 Jun 2007

Not much bad to say about this book, especially if you like weird drawings. I would put this on the same level as Ralph Steadman's "Tales of the Weird". If you don't know that book, look it up. It's amazing
