Book Description

The Nikon J1 is an entry-level camera with a lot more sophisticated features than the typical beginner's camera, including 10 megapixels of resolution, blazing-fast automatic focus, and innovative features like Motion Snapshots, Smart Photo Selector (which shoots 20 pictures in a fraction of a second and chooses the best one for you), slow-motion video at 400 and 1200 frames per second, and full resolution still photographs at up to 60 frames per second. As the owner of a Nikon J1, you demand the ability to take outstanding pictures with your new camera. DAVID BUSCH'S NIKON J1 GUIDE TO DIGITAL MOVIE MAKING AND STILL PHOTOGRAPHY shows you how, when, and why to use all the cool features, controls, and functions of the Nikon J1 to take great photographs and movies. Introductory chapters will help you get comfortable with the basics of your camera before you dive right into exploring creative ways to apply file formats, resolution, and exposure. Beautiful, full-color images illustrate where the essential buttons and dials are, so you'll quickly learn how to use the Nikon J1, and use it like a pro!

Busch is the world's #1 selling digital camera guide author and the originator of popular digital photography series like David Busch's Pro Secrets and David Busch's Quick Snap Guides. He has written more than a dozen hugely successful guidebooks for Sony and Sony Digital models, as well as many popular books devoted to dSLRs, including Mastering Digital Photography, Second Edition, and Digital Pro Secrets. As a roving photojournalist for more than 20 years, he illustrated his books, magazine articles, and newspaper reports with award-winning images. He's operated his own commercial studio, suffocated in formal dress while shooting weddings-for-hire, and shot sports for a daily newspaper and upstate New York college. His photos and articles have appeared in Popular Photography & Imaging, The Rangefinder, The Professional Photographer, and hundreds of other publications. He has also reviewed dozens of digital cameras for CNet and Computer Shopper, and his advice has been featured in National Public Radio's All Tech Considered. When About.com named its top five books on Beginning Digital Photography, debuting at the #1 and #2 slots were Busch's Digital Photography All-In-One Desk Reference for Dummies and Mastering Digital Photography. During the past year, he has had as many as five of his books listed in the Top 20 of Amazon.com's Digital Photography Bestseller list-simultaneously! Busch's 120-plus other books published since 1983 include bestsellers like David Busch's Quick Snap Guide to Digital Lenses. Visit David's website at http://www.dslrguides.com.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read Guide for NIkon 1 J1 11 Sep 2012
By J. Cruzat - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I purchased a Nikon D60 several years ago as an untrained hobbyist and also purchased the David Busch book on the camera. For me it was a big mistake because I was not knowledgeable enough for either the dslr camera or the level of information that he was imparting about the camera and photography. Since that time I have taken classes and read many books starting with the "beginner" texts, many of which did not satisfy my desire for a different kind of explanation of photography. In the meantime, I used many different kinds of point-and-shoot cameras from the most simple and advanced to the "consumer digital" camera because I am most interested in the darkroom processing side of photography, shooting in "raw" and processing with Photoshop/Lightroom. When I saw the ads and read the Nikon 1 J1 specifications, I decided that I might finally be ready. I purchased the camera and was truly amazed that it was exactly what I was looking for, both in size and capability. When I saw that Amazon would have the David Busch guide available, I knew I had hit the jackpot. I am having a difficult time putting the book down. The descriptions, explanations and detail regarding the camera construction and capability are the best I've ever seen in any camera guide. Or maybe I finally matured enough to understand what I'm reading. I can now understnd why his books are so popular. Initially, he spends time on the camera from every angle, using real pictures of each part of the camera in detail. Although I am just getting started and have not completed the book, I know I will be just as enthusiastic at the end as I am now at page 50.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful resource 15 April 2012
By D. Mckenna Keays - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Easy to read - easy to understand. I am not a photographer by any means - just someone who loves cameras and loves to take pictures. Found information just what I needed to "grow" my camera capabilities/knowledge with my new Nikon. Liked that it was written expressly for my camera and not just general references to photo concepts.
