With more than a million copies of his 100-plus books in print, David D. Busch is the world's #1 selling author of camera-specific guidebooks, and the originator of popular series like David Busch's Pro Secrets, David Busch's Quick Snap Guides, and David Busch's Guides to Digital SLR Photography.

His twelve hugely successful books for Nikon digital cameras are the top-selling guidebooks for their respective camera models. He has also written the most comprehensive and best-selling guides for many different models from Canon, Sony, Pentax, and other vendors.

Busch's dozens of other books devoted to digital photography include Digital SLR Cameras and Photography for Dummies, David Busch's Digital Infrared Pro Secrets and Mastering Digital SLR Photography. As a roving photojournalist for more than 20 years, he illustrated his books, magazine articles, and newspaper reports with award-winning images. Busch has operated his own commercial studio, suffocated in formal dress while shooting weddings-for-hire, and shot sports for a daily newspaper and upstate New York college.

The graduate of Kent State University in Ohio operated his own photo studio and was a principal in one of the largest public relations firms based in San Diego, California, working on press conferences, press kits, media tours, and sponsored photo trade magazine articles for clients including Eastman Kodak Company and Hewlett-Packard. Busch has published more than 2000 photography articles under his by-line in more than 100 different publications. His photos have appeared on the covers of magazines, and in both print and television advertising.

Busch has become one of the leading photojournalist/authors worldwide. He has had as many as five books appear simultaneously in the Amazon.com Top 25 Digital Photography Books, and when Michael Carr of About.com named the top five digital photography books for beginners, the #1 and #2 choices were his Digital Photography All-in-One Desk Reference for Dummies and Mastering Digital Photography.

Busch was a featured guest speaking on digital photography on Toronto's Breakfast Television show, has been a call-in guest for more than two dozen radio shows in major US markets, and his advice has been featured in the United States' National Public Radio's All Things Considered programme. 5.0 out of 5 stars Clear and concise: Excellent 8 Sep 2012
By Peter Piper TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Spiral-bound|Verified Purchase
The Nikon D5100 is a very richly-featured camera and so a reference book/guide is pretty much essential.

The book is generally well-indexed and information can be found quickly and easily. The book covers everything, from basic camera set-up, to some quite esoteric settings that I can't imagine using.
Before writing this review, I tried to trip the book up by looking for specific information about three topics: Focus point selection, white balance and continuous shooting. It took a few moments to find the contiunous shooting infornation (it's under "Release Modes" in the index) but all the requisite information was there in the book, clearly described, and that's pretty much all you can ask of a reference book.

The author comes over as enthusiastic and humourous in a minimalist way, without the need to be cracking jokes or telling personal experiences on every page. Whilst it would appear he's more of an author than a photographer, this book is none the worse for it.

The compact size and ring-binding is the icing on the cake.

Well worth buying and using!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beginners guide 17 Jun 2012

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice addition to the camera bag. 27 Sep 2012
Format:Spiral-bound|Verified Purchase
I bought a Nikon D5100 camera - the paper guide that came with it was "brief" and not enough to help on more difficult settings. A more thorough version was available as a PDF file but who wants to print off 200+ pages or refer to a computer every time you need help ? This Field Guide takes the best bits of both supplied manuals and explains settings and gives real-world examples accompanied by accurate images backing up the supplied data. Nice size to fit in the bag. With his obvious knowledge I'm pretty sure the author could add a volume 2 (which I would be happy to buy).

5.0 out of 5 stars Very, very good guide book 5 Sep 2012
Format:Spiral-bound|Verified Purchase
It's a very good guide book, I learnt things about my camera, seetting which before I read the book didn't have a clue what they were used for. Definately worth the money if you wanna know how to use the Nikon D5100 properly and it's excellent for showing you what setting and functions are what and what they do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful Guide 4 Sep 2012
Format:Spiral-bound|Verified Purchase
The Compact Field Guide for Nikon D5100 is like a better written version of the manual supplied by Nikon. It is easier to handle, thanks to the spiral binding and explains all the settings clearly.
