With more than a million copies of his 100-plus books in print, David D. Busch is the world's #1 selling author of camera-specific guidebooks, and the originator of popular series like David Busch's Pro Secrets, David Busch's Quick Snap Guides, and David Busch's Guides to Digital SLR Photography.

His twelve hugely successful books for Nikon digital cameras are the top-selling guidebooks for their respective camera models. He has also written the most comprehensive and best-selling guides for many different models from Canon, Sony, Pentax, and other vendors.

Busch's dozens of other books devoted to digital photography include Digital SLR Cameras and Photography for Dummies, David Busch's Digital Infrared Pro Secrets and Mastering Digital SLR Photography. As a roving photojournalist for more than 20 years, he illustrated his books, magazine articles, and newspaper reports with award-winning images. Busch has operated his own commercial studio, suffocated in formal dress while shooting weddings-for-hire, and shot sports for a daily newspaper and upstate New York college.

The graduate of Kent State University in Ohio operated his own photo studio and was a principal in one of the largest public relations firms based in San Diego, California, working on press conferences, press kits, media tours, and sponsored photo trade magazine articles for clients including Eastman Kodak Company and Hewlett-Packard. Busch has published more than 2000 photography articles under his by-line in more than 100 different publications. Busch was a featured guest speaking on digital photography on Toronto's Breakfast Television show, has been a call-in guest for more than two dozen radio shows in major US markets, and his advice has been featured in the United States' National Public Radio's All Things Considered programme. Compact and full of information. Easy to read and understand although the spiral binder may damage the pages over time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great concise guide! 10 Feb 2014
By fvaron - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Spiral-bound|Verified Purchase
I purchased this guide to compliment my purchase of David Busch's CANON EOS 70D Guide to Digital SLR Photography. I purchased my CANON 70D last August when first released upgrading from a CANON REBEL XSi. I had used David's guide for my old camera and was very impressed with his instructional writing style which led me to purchase his new books for my new camera (Note: David I waited FIVE months for the release of this book!).

I have NOT been disappointed as the Field Guide is perfect for my ADD personality! Both guides are a great addition to what I personally feel is a fantastic camera for this photo enthusiast!

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use and well set up! 12 Jun 2014
By William E. Liberatore - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Spiral-bound|Verified Purchase
I recently purchased a Canon 70d and purchased several "guides" for it. This one is, in my opinion, by far the best. I have purchased other guides written by David Busch, so I really wasn't surprised. I wouldn't say that there is anything in this guide that you wouldn't find in any of the others, but this one just seems easier to use to me. I find myself generally searching for the fringe stuff.... (I know how to turn the camera on and insert a memory card....) so if I go to the book it's usually not a simple thing. The book is set up to mirror all the menus in the camera so if you're looking at the camera and want to know what a certain setting does it's also easy to find an explanation. If you buy I hope you are as happy as I was and thanks for taking the time to read my review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Busch's 70D "COMPACT FIELD GUIDE" versus his 70D book "EOS 70D Digital SLR Photography" 21 April 2014
By R. Anthony - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Spiral-bound|Verified Purchase
The 70D Compact Field Guide is without question the best presentation of the 70D between his two literary versions. (See my review of his Digital SLR book version for a more complete review.)

In truth, the "Field Guide" version is the best, most comprehensive, and readable presentation of the 70D currently available. It is so good it should have been included in the Canon packing box.

Make no mistake, this field guide is a "book" not an outline. Everything you need to know is contained in this guide. Look no further. Recommended.

One warning: Chapter 6 pp. starting at 170 is missing the whole section which explains "live movie Compression, Resolution, and Frame Rates". ( This includes the explanations of Movie 2 Menu options such as: "All-I, IBP, and Compression Resolutions". The concepts and meanings are very easy to read and understand. Unfortunately they were left out of the Field Guide, but are in his book version.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing! 22 April 2014
By Pierre Gauthier - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Spiral-bound
This book is essentially a larger, clearer, colour version of the instruction manual provided by Canon to anyone who buys the camera.

It does not provide the valuable tips presented in David Busch’s major book on the Canon EOS 70.

Though spiral-bound like a notebook, it is way too heavy to carry along when taking photos.

Thus, one can only ponder at the usefulness of such a publication.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous! 16 Mar 2014
By Katherine Elliott - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Spiral-bound|Verified Purchase
Just like the "Big Book"..... everything you ever wanted to know about your Canon EOS 70D, but in a compact and easy to carry field version. Love David's writing!
