Book Description

25 Oct 2012
David Bowie is renowned for his innovative, ever-changing style; from androgynous leotards and space-age jumpsuits to short-cut blazers and distressed frock coats. With an estimated 136 million album sales under his belt, and over a thousand international tour dates, Bowie has captured the attention of rock fans all over the world.

Crammed with fabulous photographs, this book is a stunning fashion retrospective of the iconic and well-loved rockstar. Apart from documenting five decades of Bowie's unique sense of style, it also discusses the cultural and artistic influences that have shaped him, and how he has influenced others in turn.

David Bowie Style is a must for die-hard Bowie fans as well as fashion lovers everywhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good for what it is 12 Nov 2012
By Dirk42
Format:Paperback
I like this book a lot. I don't think that you can expect revelations and all new photos; its not designed to be that type of book. What you do get is a lot more than the standard fare, with interesting text diversions that join the dots between Bowie's looks and different influences, great large-format photographs and a very nice design.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor! 9 Nov 2012
By Stephen Lloyd VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Bought this book on the strength of the two previous positive reviews. Big, big Mistake!

The text is very bland and pedestrian in my opinion and offers little insight into Bowie couture as suggested by the title. All the photographs have been seen before and frankly most are uninteresting.

If you want a recent book of varied Bowie images with some rarities included then go for Paolo Hewitt's `Album by Album. Though I should warn you that Hewitt's text is also markedly bland and pretty superfluous.

If you want a good book of photographs and rewarding prose on Bowie's style, influence and influences then go for `Bowie Style' by Mark Paytress. Published some years ago it is a great book which nails the Bowie enigma wonderfully.
