I am very fond of David Bellamy's watercolour books. He uses his palette to create landscapes that have mystery, drama and depth. After the usual materials section, the tips and techniques include sketching scenery, figures and animals. There are ideas for improving composition. All the elements of a classic landscape are included - trees, water, rocks, mountains, buildings and moorland with wonderful examples of David's finished watercolours and hints and tips that will improve your technique. The four step by step paintings are atmospheric and not over-simplistic. This is the best of this type of book. This review first appeared on Karen Platt's book review website.
