Amazon Review

David Beckham would probably have been a male model had he not discovered his amazing talent for football; at least, that's the impression one gets after flicking through this gorgeous coffee table tome devoted to the striking features of the country's most celebrated and idolised sportsman since George Best.

Beckham: My World is both an autobiography and a photographic portrait of him and his family (that's Mrs Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham and their baby son Brooklyn, in case you didn't know). The Beckhams have been captured on film by renowned photographer Dean Freeman and there are plenty of shots covering all aspects of David's life and career: if you are a fan of his football, you will love the atmospheric snapshots of David proving himself on the field. If you are a fan of his looks, you will be ecstatic over the range of matinee-idol poses Freeman has created. Beckham in the bath, Beckham in bed, Beckham as a father.

David reveals as much of himself in the text as he does in the photos and offers some pretty candid thoughts about the more memorable moments of his life so far, such as the World Cup: "I know I've not always been an angel. There are things I have done that I have regretted but there were times after the world cup when I was treated like a criminal." On Glenn Hoddle: "I never read Hoddle's book, just the bits and bobs that were serialised, including that rubbish about me not being focused. I am not sure if anything was said to the manager's face, but I think he knew our feelings. We lost respect for him over that." It's obvious David is very much in love and adores his family. But what is even clearer is that he is also very uncomfortable with a lot of the publicity he receives, despite the fact that he admits he loves being centre stage on the pitch. As a personal insight into a footballing hero and cultural icon, it works very well and is very readable, but it scores more as a loving tribute to Beckham's heartthrob status and on that level you won't be disappointed. --Jonathan Weir

5.0 out of 5 stars What a great book by 'David the man himself' 13 Oct 2000
By A Customer
I enjoyed reading this book very much. It contains all of David Beckhams life story. David is thought of a hero to many Manchester United fans. This book contains his life story from football to marriage. Ata great price you can not go wrong by buying this book. I have rated it with 5 stars as it contains information about everything to do with the man himself. To any Man Utd fan Beckham would be a hero, to be able to find out who his heros are in this book is great. You get the chance to find out what he would be if he was not even a footballer. I hope you go out and buy this book. Enjoy reading it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Spend your money with care 1 Nov 2000

If you like lots of posed pictures then this is for you. However if you like something to read then I would suggest that you get hold of Andrew Mortons book Posh and Becks which I have also read. It is a much more interesting book and is very balanced giving a good picture of them as a celebrity couple.

1.0 out of 5 stars You're better off with Posh & Becks 30 Oct 2000
By A Customer
I was very disappointed with this - lots of space-filling pictures, obviously posed, two other credited authors for a book with nothing new to say. Unlike Andrew Morton's Posh and Becks there was no real comment on the way celebrity status has affected Beckham. This probably started as a lame attempt to prove some sort of point, but what point exactly not even the three authors seem to know. An expensive picture book.

The book shows him to be a wonderful father and loving husband and a superb footballer. It is much better than the Andrew Morton book which is malicous and untrue. With stunning pictures taken by Dean Freeman, this book is a musthave for anyone wanting to discover the true David Beckham.
P.S Buy the Spice Girls album!

Although I adore this man so much,I do feel the book could of been of deeper content.I guess the text was aimed at footie fans and the photos for us lasses who are mad for the man himself.Still,I am glad I have read it unlike many people who are too ignorant to respect them as a normal couple who are just lucky to be where they are today.3 cheers for the Beckhams! As a mother myself I love all the insight to their family life, they are good parents and photos of them all together are just so beautiful.Lets hope Victorias book lets me peep inside just a tiny bit more..please?.

I think the DAVID BECKHAM book was great and the way he spoke about the way he lives and his childhood was great. You could tell that it was David himself that said what was published so that was good and therefore it shows you the real HIM. There are also a lot of great pictures of him, his wife and their little baby boy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just can't stop reading this wonderful book!! 29 Jun 2001
This is the best book that i ever read. Perhaps this is due to my love on Manchester United and my curiosity on David Beckham -- one of the best midfielders in the world. Beckham describes his life very thoroughly... you can sense his feeling on anything through his words from the book. You can feel how much he loves his wife, his son and his football. You can see the book is actually the actual words in Beckham's heart, deep into his heart. Very satisfy with this book!
