5.0 out of 5 stars Quite simply stunning 22 May 2000
By A Customer
As an amateur rose enthusiast I own a number of books of roses, but none is as beautifully presented as this one. The photography, showing English roses as extraordinary and dreamy cut flowers in vases, are remeniscent of Old Dutch master paintings of Old Roses.

And that is of course what is so wonderful about David Austen roses. They have all the intricate and varied beauty of old roses (and the extraordinary t-rose and musk rose scent, combined with repeat flowering, disease resistance and good foliage.

These roses are simply unbeatable and the book does then full credit, with each type of rose getting full page coverage and an honest rating of all its best and worst features with an overall star rating.

You can be sure of planting the very, very best - I've fallen in love with most that I've chosen- and enjoying a beautiful book into the bargain.

5.0 out of 5 stars great, but a little dated 23 Sep 2003
The text is very instructive, the pictures are of great beauty. Each Austin rose gets its own portrait. However, since 1996 a lot more Austin roses have been brought to the market while others have been replaced, so a new, updated edition would greatly be appreciated by all rose lovers. If you can't wait, you'll find many of the new Austin roses in Trevor Griffiths' wonderful book "Glorious Old Roses", published by Viking.
