5.0 out of 5 stars Can't all comics be reprinted this way? 8 April 2011
By allenleong - Published on Amazon.com
If you saw the Binky Brown book by Justin Green that McSweeney's put out last year, you know what I mean; laser-scanning the original art, so that all the paste-ups, white-outs and re-drawings can be revealed. In the case of Dave Stevens, though, it's not so much lifting a curtain of the nuts-and-bolts assembly of a comics page as a revelation of how damn good this guy was. If you don't care about the technical aspects of putting together a comics page, you can still marvel at the detail of a black-and-white page before it gets colored; every pen stroke and pencil mark is in plain view, and it's a giddy delight (and yes, that full-page shot of Betty is just as delicious au naturel as she is).

This is not a casual buy, and you have to weigh the cost of laying out so much money to indulge what is, at worst, a vanity project. But considering Stevens' passing in 2008, that there'll be no more work from him, that this is his only significant narrative, and that he was one of the medium's finest draftsmen, then it's not much of a debate at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rocketeer Artist's Edition: 2ND EDITION NOW AVAILABLE! 13 Aug 2012
By Buffy - Published on Amazon.com
For fans of Dave Stevens this is a great new way to enjoy an old classic with the Artist's Edition presentation. All the pages reproduce the original artwork at the original size. This book quickly sold out its first printing and thankfully at the 2012 SDCC the publisher announced a 2nd edition os coming out. So unless you need a 1st edition copy hold off on paying the big bucks on the collector's market and wait for the 2nd edition due in early 2013.

UPDATE FEB 2013: This book is now on the shelves of your local comic book store with an even better cover illustration.
