This was definitely NOT one of my 'read again books. Seemed to start well, then the heroine's character made a dramatic change, too much eros.. always spoils the booke when it is continually repeated... If someone wants just erotic books they would buy them. Not everyone needs to read pages and pages to get the idea. Not much of a story... characters difficult to relate to. I don't want to criticise the writer, just the book, perhaps other stories by the same writer may be good. If someone enjoys reading a book with no story and lots of sex, then this would suit. Certainly not for me.
I very much appreciate the possibility to 'look inside' but perhaps a few more pages would help to realise exactly what kind of book we are purchasing.

I would be feeling much better disposed towards this book had I not already read it in 2008 under a different format entitled " The Last Rake in London." Despite it being set in the same period the links to Downton Abbey are quite tenuous. In both productions the most interesting characters are feisty old ladies who seem to terrify everyone else. No author should give the name "Bertie Basset" to any character, however minor, as there are too many connections to confectionery! The book is not too bad, but make sure you haven't already read it.
