Great vignettes which are amusing and solid commentaries at the same time on human nature.Would be interested where a second series would go given the interwoven personalities and themes.

I didn't get to see all these episodes on television so this was a must buy. Very very very good.

Love this series. Great believable individual stories with a link to some characters. Can be watched as single episodes. It is mainly the internet dating connection that makes it a series. Do wish they would do a second series. Probably costly to make due to quality actors. Do buy as this might encourage another series.

I loved so much about this series of short interconnected films, which was orignally made for Channel 4 and broadcast during 2013.
The cast is outstanding, especially, I thought the less well-known actors, Sian Breckin, Montana Thompson, just to pick out 2, who I'd never seen before. As explained by the series writer, Bryan Elsley in the extras the cast had to be this good as the stories are mostly talking heads across tables, so it all turns on the dialogue and the performances. So it's great to see outstanding British actors, Sheridan Smith, Will Mellor, Ben Chaplin et al utterly convincing as their flawed characters deal with the tensions of their, at times, very funny dates. An online dating site is what sets up these encounters, but its the characters, created by Elsley that makes it all thoroughly believable and entertaining. A special mention also for the beautiful opening/end music by Irish singer, Hannah Peel, for me reminiscent of the haunting music of 'The Bridge' series. This first-rate series is not to be missed.

A reasonably diverting piece of television, Dates was shown on Channel 4 over several nights during the early summer of 2013, with all nine episodes now available on this DVD. Focusing on several London-based individuals looking for various types of relationships via online introductions, the series will doubtless provoke different reactions in different viewers. With some sharp writing and an element of originality in the ways in which a number of the `dates' work out, the show is never less than entertaining, and though it does hit some very familiar rom-com beats (infidelity, single parenting), it is carried through by its various intersecting stories, no two of which are quite the same.
Of course, how you react to the show is largely determined by what kind of person you are and which characters you can relate to or in some way sympathise with. For instance, I found Oona Chaplin's Mia (ostensibly the `main' character in the show since she appears in more episodes than any other) to be a hateful, superficial flake who certainly deserved her well-concealed unhappiness (this is the most I've disliked a female character since I experienced Zooey Deschanel's performance in 500 Days of Summer), although several friends with whom I have discussed the show (and apparently the series' writers too) viewed her very differently.
