Product Description

'In a game of snog, marry or avoid, Dates is definitely a keeper' - Daily Telegraph DATES is a witty, sexy and emotional drama series about people on dates. In bars, restaurants, galleries and bedrooms, lives are intertwined when characters like Stephen (Ben Chaplin, The Thin Red Line), a charming and good-looking thirty-something surgeon meets Mia (Oona Chaplin, Game of Thrones), a heartbreakingly beautiful lost soul in her 20s. From Bryan Elsley, the creator of the award-winning series Skins and also starring Will Mellor (Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps), Gemma Chan (Fresh Meat) and Sheridan Smith (Mrs. Biggs), Dates reveals the complicated and hilarious ways people interact on their quest to find love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dates dvd 22 Feb 2014
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Love this series. Great believable individual stories with a link to some characters. Can be watched as single episodes. It is mainly the internet dating connection that makes it a series. Do wish they would do a second series. Probably costly to make due to quality actors. Do buy as this might encourage another series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Short and sharp stories 17 Jan 2014

Great vignettes which are amusing and solid commentaries at the same time on human nature.Would be interested where a second series would go given the interwoven personalities and themes.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cheating men fail, deceitful women prevail... 6 Sep 2013
A reasonably diverting piece of television, Dates was shown on Channel 4 over several nights during the early summer of 2013, with all nine episodes now available on this DVD. Focusing on several London-based individuals looking for various types of relationships via online introductions, the series will doubtless provoke different reactions in different viewers. With some sharp writing and an element of originality in the ways in which a number of the `dates' work out, the show is never less than entertaining, and though it does hit some very familiar rom-com beats (infidelity, single parenting), it is carried through by its various intersecting stories, no two of which are quite the same.
Of course, how you react to the show is largely determined by what kind of person you are and which characters you can relate to or in some way sympathise with. For instance, I found Oona Chaplin's Mia (ostensibly the `main' character in the show since she appears in more episodes than any other) to be a hateful, superficial flake who certainly deserved her well-concealed unhappiness (this is the most I've disliked a female character since I experienced Zooey Deschanel's performance in 500 Days of Summer), although several friends with whom I have discussed the show (and apparently the series' writers too) viewed her very differently.
