Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Take your consoles online - wirelessly&

So you have a Nintendo Wii or an NDS (original or Lite). If you're lucky, you have both! You also have a broadband internet connection for your PC. But you don't have a wireless network. What's the easiest, cheapest way to take your consoles online and compete with gamers from all over the world? Simple - WiFi MAX for Nintendo Wii and DS/DS Lite!

WiFi MAX is your ticket to the exciting world of online gaming, and it couldn't be simpler to use. Just plug your USB WiFi dongle into your internet-enabled PC to create a Wireless Access Point. You can then connect to the internet and play online-enabled multiplayer games with DS and Wii gamers from all over the world. Just the thing if you don't have a wireless router! Best of all, WiFi MAX supports up to five 'local' DS gamers at a time, so you and your mates can all play online at once with no loss of speed!

Don't forget, there's more to the Nintendo Wii's online service than playing games. You can also download additional material such as new levels, skins, artwork and even retro games! That's right - Nintendo is gradually making its back-catalogue classics for old Nintendo machines such as the NES, SNES and N64 available to Wii owners through the Virtual Arcade service. And with WiFi MAX, you can download them through your broadband internet connection! Just think what you'll be missing out on if you don't take your Wii online&

As WiFi MAX operates on the Wireless G standard, it's five times faster than an ordinary WiFi connection, and if you use our USB cable and dongle stand (supplied), you can position your dongle to maximise WiFi range. If you have other WiFi-enabled devices capable of using the internet, such as laptops or PDAs, you can take them online with WiFi MAX too. It's the ultimate device for internet surfing without a WiFi router!

3.0 out of 5 stars Go for a cheaper, basic one! 17 May 2007
By Max Rebo TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
Firstly, to clear some points - the Wii will work off 'any' Wi-Fi connection dongle - not just products that say so on the fancy packaging. I bought a standard 8 pound wi-fi connector off ebay, and it does the job no problem. The problem people are having is actually getting the internet to be shared with the Wii. All you do is simply.. right click the connection icon for you main internet provider (under Network Connections), go to the Properties, choose the tab furthest to the right, and select your wi-fi dongle under "Internet Sharing"... voila!
Norton does slow down my connection, insisting and panic-ing that its an 'unsafe connection', but AVG works fine with wi-fi.

Only one point to make about this method - don't go "too" cheap, or you may suffer your connenctor dying on you in months to come (through expierience and other peoples accounts!) However, the life of your Wi-fi connector can be made longer through simply un-plugging it when not used. Too many lazy bones just leave it in their computer 24-7 till it gets red hot.

Don't be ripped off! Just get a basic dongle and bobs your uncle!

1.0 out of 5 stars WiFi Max, WiFi Don't Bother?!?! 11 Jun 2007
Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
If you're looking to waste a few hours slowly going completely mad then this is the WiFi Connector for you. Complete with idiot manual and hype that it simply cannot live up to this product has it all!

Except that it does not work. After three hours of going through the same simple process the thing refused to work. I was looking at this and the offical Nintendo wifi dongle and foolishly fell into the trap of believing what the packaging said.

Please do not buy this. I have learned my lesson well.

1.0 out of 5 stars Garbage 26 Aug 2007
Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
Don't bother with this product, use any cheap USB WiFi adapter, your wii will pick it up, and after following the instructions for your wireless router you'll be online in no time!

2.0 out of 5 stars Datel WiFi Max (What a joke!!) 2 May 2007
Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
I bought this thinking it would work perfectly. I was wrong. It took ages to set up and then when it worked it stopped working. All in all it took me about 3 hours to set up correctly and what's more you have to plug it in a USB port each time you use it. Which is a complete joke if you ask me. My firewall didn't like it and wouldn't let my DS and Wii connect through it so I have to disbale the firewall to get it to work properly.(by the way I'm using Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall 4) I'm going to buy a router soon as I hope it might actually work with my firewall and hopefully be hassle free.

I wouldn't recommend this to anyone as it's a waste of money from what I've seen of it

Hope this review helps people to make up their mind.

1.0 out of 5 stars A piece of junk. 16 May 2008
By RosieP
Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
Even after much searching of the internet for help and hours of tweaking the Wifi Max connected with a Wii for only a few minutes before failing and refusing to do so again. I might have forgiven it for having a limited range had the Wii been further away from the PC, but I would expect it to operate within fifteen feet!

By contrast, a Linksys wireless router is now happily talking wirelessly with the Wii and through an ethernet cable to an Xbox 360. Like reviewers above, I'd strongly advise anyone wishing to connect their Wii to the internet to use a router suitable for their internet connection rather than wasting their money on one of these things.

1.0 out of 5 stars BEWARE 7 Dec 2007
By JR
Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
I purchased this on the box's promise that it "works with any internet connection". Not so! I connect through a USB modem, and the software supplied does not detect it.

I am computer literate (I have a degree in computing science for goodness sake), and tried everything I could to get this to work. After some research, I found many many accounts of people with USB modems having the same problem.

If you've got a normal ethernet connection, this will most likely work fine, but after my experience, I would NOT recommend this product. Do as I intend to do, and buy the official Nintendo USB connector instead.
