Reading this novel is rather like spending time with a good friend, full of understanding and laughter. This is a book which will transform a journey, enhance a holiday or provide some much-needed escapism.
Harriet Peel (Harry), a magazine journalist from Bath, has many challenges: a social life in need of improvement; a boss who doesn't appreciate her; and the wedding invitation from hell. One of her best friends is getting married and at the reception Harry will have to face her ex-boyfriend and his new girl. To find someone to take along with her, Harry tries her hand at internet dating with hilarious results (book-signings and breadsticks will never seem the same to me again).
The novel covers some familiar territory, and yet always keeps its freshness because of the keen eye and wit of the writer. Jules Stanbridge understands that life is bitter-sweet and writes with perception and an unerring sense of the ridiculous. With a funny, self-deprecating heroine, a cast of captivating characters and a fast-paced plot, this is a hugely enjoyable read.
I read this book after it was shortlisted for the RNA Romantic Comedy Prize 2011, but the author does not seem to be as well-known as she deserves. One to look out for!

very much like sex in the city but its set in Bath as the main character Harry is on the hunt for a date to her friends wedding. she puts her adventures into her pages of the magazine she works for, totally an instant hit with the readers. also a major loss to her family makes harry realise life is too short to settle and makes over her life. very much like carrie bradshaw from sex and the city. hilarious reading
