Product Description

Product Description

Shrouded in mysterious legend and steeped in history, Dartmoor with its stunning scenery, pretty villages and abundant wildlife is a source of inspiration to anyone who spends time there. From its curious stone circles and rows to its hard rocky tors, from its rich, moss-covered ancient woodlands and rushing rivers to its sparse high moor land and bleak prison, Dartmoor has inspired artists, poets and musicians for centuries. This book contains a fascinating mixture of informative facts and mysterious tales. Here you will discover the wildlife, the history, the geography, the legends, the industry, the harshness and the inspiring wonder of one of England's most popular National Parks. This book illustrates why people are pulled back time and again to the wilderness of Dartmoor.

This is a great overview of Dartmoor, that packs in a lot of information in a readable way.

The first part of the book gives an introduction to the history of Dartmoor and how it is today. This is followed by sections on the main areas of Dartmoor, with descriptions interspersed with local stories and legends and with details of the lcoal wildlife.

Some lovely photographs help bring it all to life, rounding off a book that can be dipped into for ideas and makes you want to just get out there and explore the area!

Great book, but! 29 Dec 2011

This is a fantastic book, but the title is a little misleading. It does go into some detail about the 'wilderness' that Dartmoor has , but in my opinion the book focuses more on the village's and town's of Dartmoor, rather than the true wild places.
