Death Lives

Darksiders II follows the exploits of Death, one of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse, in an action-packed tale that runs parallel to the events in the original Darksiders game. This epic journey propels Death across an expansive gameworld as he tries to redeem his brother, War, the horseman blamed for prematurely starting the Apocalypse in Darksiders.

Like the original Darksiders game before it, the second game in the series is primarily a hack 'n slash adventure. The game takes place across netherworld environments, including "The White city," an outpost where angels live, and "The Eternal Throne," a floating fortress where the Lords of the Dead stand guard over souls that need to be cleansed. Although Death is the most feared of the Four Horsemen, his physical abilities are very different than his brother, War. Death is far more nimble, and relies on a combination of melee and ranged attacks. In combat Death's primary weapon is his huge iconic scythe, with a wide range of other weapons and usable items that must be gathered as the game progresses. Weapons can be dual-wielded, upgradable armour can be acquired for protection and Death has access to a terrifying and powerful pale mount.

Key Game Features

  • Become the most feared of the legendary Four Horsemen, able to destroy entire worlds and battle forces beyond Heaven and Hell
  • Explore startling gameworld environments reminiscent of heaven and hell
  • Customise your experience with varied armour sets, weapons, and skill trees allowing players to create their own Death
  • Explore a vast open world, complete dozens of side quests and customise your Death with a full leveling system, skill trees and endless equipment combinations
  • Death is a nimble and agile character capable of incredible acrobatic feats allowing the player to explore the world like never before
  • Argul’s Tomb DLC pack offering extra gameplay content, including a whole new dungeon to explore, further extending the Darksiders II experience

Darksiders 2 is much better than the first one. The animation on characters is very good and combat flows more :) to me it feels like a mix between prince of persia and god of war. Very good music and graphics are great.:D if you like action, platformers, with rpg elements than you will probably like this.

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly great sequel 27 Aug 2012
Platform for Display:PLAYSTATION 3|Edition:Limited Edition with Argul's Tomb Expansion Pack
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
One thing's for sure, Darksiders never got the recognition it deserved. This was probably due to the majority of the criticism being that much of the gameplay mechanics were cribbed from other games - Portal, God of War, Prince of Persia. This may be true, but Vigil cribbed the very best bits and combined them into a game that thrilled, surprised and just kept on giving with massive replay value.

Darksiders 2 doesn't deviate from the look and feel of the original. The graphics are still stunning although the universe has more of a pure fantasy atmosphere than Darksiders' post-apocalyptic setting. Death handles identically to War in terms of running, jumping and climbing and swimming. The combat is relatively unchanged from the variation fast attack/slow attack system, with fixed combo's that can be purchased. Death can be equipped with combat spells/skills, although the number and variety of these spells is around five times larger than DS1. Spells are upgradeable with skill points which are earned through combat.

Death, unlike War, is not limited to dealing with Vulgrim for trade. There are numerous vendors across the map, some offering better deals than others.

The upgrade system as a whole is much deeper. Money and items are earned from defeating enemies. Items can be bought and sold, weapons upgraded and talismans equipped to increase health/wrath etc. Instead of topping up your health from fixed location health chests, there is a potion system - you can activate these easily during battle or, if things get too hectic, potions will automatically activate when your health hits zero.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great game 13 Oct 2012

If liked the first game you will like this one for sure, but if you didn't like the previous one there are still chances that you will like this one thanks to faster combat mechanics and RPG elements.

By the way, the seller did very good job. I have ordered this item on Wednesday at about 5pm and I have received the game on the next day at about 10 am.

4.0 out of 5 stars Daeth cometh 18 Sep 2012
Platform for Display:PLAYSTATION 3|Edition:Limited Edition with Argul's Tomb Expansion Pack
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Darksiders II the sequel to the great action adventure Darksiders is a great game itself that improves upon it's predecessor in almost every way. The combat has been made much faster than that of clunky War. Death is, despite his name, actually a likeble character and his fluid prince of persia like movements make him a joy to control. The developer has added a loot system, which at first I was sceptical about, but which works surprisingly wel for this type of game. The world has been expanded as well being much bigger than the first and the optional quests make it feel more like you are experiencing your own personal adventure. Just like the first one the graphical style is great at showing of Joe Mad's art style. The only negatives I found about this game is that although war is mentioned here and there, it doesn't really feel like you are helping war, we never see him in the game. And the end felt a bit abrupt to me. Lastly, a bit more variety in the 'powers' you acquire would have been great too. Overall however, this is a great action adventure.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fear Death 11 Sep 2012

You play as Death, one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse and the notorious reaper of souls. One hundred years have passed since the events of the first game, the horseman War has been imprisoned and humanity has been completely wiped out. War's crime was bringing about a premature apocalypse and interfering in matters that were not of his concern. Death remains certain that is War is innocent and that he was a puppet to the events that he helped shape. Death is told that the Tree of Life is the only source of power that can resurrect humanity and can help clear War's name of all crimes.

Death is a very imposing figure, confidently striding towards every goal. The story is straightforward and the premise may seem simple enough, but it isn't paced very well and irrelevant plot holes begin to creep into the bigger picture. The back-story about the horsemen and how they came to be is a fascinating insight.

The game is absolutely huge and it became a pleasure to journey through vast lands. If you thought the previous game had great scope, then Darksiders 2 will truly blow your mind. It's absolutely amazing to gaze towards distant vistas and realise that you can actually venture towards those areas!

The art direction deserves praise and helps bring these worlds to life. Level design successfully implements platforming challenges and binds enormous environments together remarkably well. Navigating levels isn't always a case of running along a path to get from A to B, it can also be a case of using Death's agility to scurry up walls and use the environment as a progression based tool.
