I've been a fan of Darksiders for a long time now, and think the world and characters are all awesome. Naturally I was excited to read The Abomination Vault as soon as I discovered it.

I thought it was a genuinely good attempt and would love to see more Darksiders books in the future. In the book, the Four Horsemen are tasked with stopping the villains gaining access to a vault of weapons, all of which are absolutely devastating and if used could threaten the balance. One of the most interesting things about the book is gaining an insight into the relationships between the horsemen, particularly Fury and Strife who haven't been seen in the Darksiders games. Strife comes across as a sarcastic and not terribly nice character who seems to focus many of his jives towards Death, whether or not these are born out of jealousy or admiration, who knows? Fury - the only female horsemen, seems to be the only one that openly shows how much she cares about the others, taking the time in the book to show genuine concern for Death. Her humanity is quite refreshing in a book of quite nasty deaths and demons. War is the honourable, quiet one who seems to have the best relationship with Death. He may be the youngest but he is by no means the weakest and he is well respected. Finally there is Death, the eldest and most feared. He is always calm and collected about everything and sees himself as the 'leader'. Though he never shows any sentiment, his actions make it obvious to all that he would go to any lengths for his siblings. Interestingly, he seems to be the one to always do the 'disciplining'. I found the story to be rather engaging, it moves at a good pace and there is plenty of action, plus you feel like the story is actually going somewhere.

So I was dubious about this book since I'm a HUGE Darksiders fan and I loved the first game, so I really wanted to see how the book set the stage for the new game and the first game. I have to say that I was happily surprised, the plot is deep and thoughtful and the theme of regret plays a big part of this. With all the media that has been released for the game's sequel we've gotten an idea of Death's character and personality, and the book follows this through well. The new characters are given their own personality and not just run of the mill and old characters keep to what we know and love. The reason I gave this book a 4/5 is I didn't think it was long enough, I had this delivered and read within 3 days, I really wished it had been longer but even then this book has really made me look forward to the game even more!!! I would highly recommend this book for any Darksider fan, that's definitely taken with the lore.

A great book. Added background to the universe, War and Death's bond, and has an interesting story. Read if you have played the games or are interested in the Darksiders universe.

I love darksiders, so when I got the chance to order Abomination Vault I took it hands down. I did not expect the book to have such masterful and complex storytelling and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it. You might want to play any of the games first to get a feel of the atmosphere that the book conveys and appreciate it more. At the end of the book, I was so captivated I just had to play darksiders 1 and 2 all over again. Definitely worth it!

Not very long, but if you are looking for someway to go deeper into the Darksiders history - then this is for you. Seeing as Darksiders 3 is very unlikely to ever see the light of day, then i would highly recommend this book.

Fingers crossed for DS3! :)

One of the best novels based in videogames that I've read in the last times. A very fluid reading, very coherent, without excesive descriptions of details, and with a good level of action and mythology, this book is a good lecture if you need to disconnect to the reality.
