Darkness comes at night into Daisy's room, trying to sneak up on Daisy, but she captures him and they dance until Daisy is sleepy and then Darkness wraps her in a big hug so she can sleep. The illustrations are charming and Darkness is done with a glossy black paint which shimmers in the light and has a different texture than the rest of the page. The rhyming story is simple enough for my three year old to try to recite after a few readings, but not so monotonous that I can't bear to have it handed to me every evening. I picked it up because my daughter was developing a fear of the dark and after one reading she changed her mind and now wants Darkness to come to her room and be her friend too. I'm not suggesting that it will solve all nighttime fears, but it's a sweet little story which shows that night isn't scary.
