One of the best anthologies I've read this year!,

Good collection of horror stories. Some traditional, some experimental, some told in a straightforward way, others experimenting with style and voice. All in all a diverse and wide-ranging view of the horror market as it stands today.

Great stories - why no mainstream publisher?,

A fantastic collection of short stories - the range of ideas on display here puts the vast majority of "literary" writers to shame. It's just sad that there are only one or two collections published annually by mainstream publishers (and these always feature the same old names, year after year after year). However, it's encouraging to see some "Darkness Rising" writers getting recognition in these books, even if it's only "Honourable Mentions". This is certainly the place to be seen, and I'd be surprised if at least some of these writers didn't break through in the next few years. Well worth reading.

"Darkness Rising" has built up a reputation for itself in the last few years as a quality anthology, with several stories being nominated for Stoker Awards and being reprinted in the renowned "Best Horror and Fantasy" collection.Now it's turned into an annual release, and if anything the quality of stories here is even better than before. Disturbing, original, and definitely not to be read alone!
