Fantastic 19 Jun 2002

I've just re-read this book for the 5th time & it still keeps me in suspense even though I now know what is going to happen !!

I have enjoyed all Susan Lewis books (some more than others !), but I can honestly say that this is her best by far ... it is a great book that has stood the test of time as it would still rank in my all time Top 10 reads !!!!

If you have only read Susan Lewis's more recent books, then this one is definatly worth getting hold of !!!!

An excellent read 11 Jun 2007

What a great book - the scope of this is a lot greater than any other of Susan Lewis's books and, I have to say, the best one she has written in my opinion
The majority of it is set in France during World War 2 with excellent descriptions of the privations and indignities suffered by the French from the occupying Germans.
It also has an excellent and very surprising conclusion.
Read it, I'm glad I did and I think you will be able to say the same.

Darkest longings kept me hooked throughout reading it, i couldn't put it down! it is one of susan's best stories so far and i definately recommend it to anyone!
i really sympathised with Claudine at the beginning and how Francois treated her, but as the book went on, i was anxious to find out how francois really felt!
by the end, i loved every single charatcer and felt that it was the perfect ending.
a great read!
