Product Description

A romantic thriller in which the marriage of a rich, reckless and beautiful woman to a savage and notorious gentleman causes amazement in Paris. She is determined to cope with her husband's cruelty, but she is forced to learn not only whom she can trust but also whom she really loves. From the author of CHASING DREAMS.

From the Back Cover

Claudine Rafferty is rich, reckless and beautiful. So when she throws herself into an arranged marriage with the eminently eligible but notorious François de Lorvoire, everyone in Paris is amazed. Determined to cope with François's cruelty and indifference, Claudine soon finds herself driven to find love in the arms of Armand St Jacques, one of her husband's vignerons.

But all is not what it seems in the de Lorvoire family. As Claudine learns more of François's sinister past, she also inherits some of his most dangerous enemies. And against a background of betrayal and conspiracy, she is forced to learn not only whom she can trust, but also whom she really loves...

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, 19 Jun 2002
This review is from: Darkest Longings (Paperback)
I've just re-read this book for the 5th time & it still keeps me in suspense even though I now know what is going to happen !!

I have enjoyed all Susan Lewis books (some more than others !), but I can honestly say that this is her best by far ... it is a great book that has stood the test of time as it would still rank in my all time Top 10 reads !!!!

If you have only read Susan Lewis's more recent books, then this one is definatly worth getting hold of !!!!

What a great book - the scope of this is a lot greater than any other of Susan Lewis's books and, I have to say, the best one she has written in my opinion
The majority of it is set in France during World War 2 with excellent descriptions of the privations and indignities suffered by the French from the occupying Germans.
It also has an excellent and very surprising conclusion.
Read it, I'm glad I did and I think you will be able to say the same.

Darkest longings kept me hooked throughout reading it, i couldn't put it down! it is one of susan's best stories so far and i definately recommend it to anyone!
i really sympathised with Claudine at the beginning and how Francois treated her, but as the book went on, i was anxious to find out how francois really felt!
by the end, i loved every single charatcer and felt that it was the perfect ending.
a great read!
