5.0 out of 5 stars Dark, emotional, and absolutely stunning 28 Jun 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
This has to be the best album of 1999... 16 heart-felt tracks, from the dark depths of Waking Up Beside You to the intense fury of When I'm Dead. This band doesn't get the recognition they rightly deserve, although to be fair their music isn't very commercial. Anyone who likes their songs with bottomless emotional depth, superbly-sculpted tunes and amazing lyrics, then this is the best album you could possibly choose.

5.0 out of 5 stars this album gives a good reason for having ears 5 Feb 2001
Format:Audio CD
Please be totally influenced by all the praise these lads have been given. This has to be the best dark album I have ever heard, you can forget the well known bands like NIN, these lads are the big momma's biscuit. Darkest days contains every type of emotional rock there has ever been, but given an added spice to make greater than anything before. It is more than your money's worth, you could buy a whole music store and if it didn't have this album, then you've been done my friend cos this is superb, a collective gathering of the most compatible rock musicians. Anybody who doesn't like Darkest Days must have a good reason, like " they haven't listened to it" Stabbing Westward are the biggest thing since the invention of the wheel.

5.0 out of 5 stars The "ultimate" relationship album. 14 Feb 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Just when I think I'm at my lowest ebb, I listen to this disc and I'm lifted up.
Granted, it sometimes makes me wanna hit people.... but doesn't any aggressive music?.... either that, or bounce off the walls like a demented rocker?
Anyway, buy this album.... it's helped me through my darkest days and I would never be without it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thanks for gracing us with your presence... 30 Oct 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Glad they finally saw fit to give this a UK release, since this is one pretty strong album. It's actually quite difficult to pin down where Stabbing Westward are coming from musically, since they vary from industrial beats to plaintive balladry, but neither sounds out of place alongside the other. This amalgamation reaches its peak on "When I'm Dead" but there are many other highlights which I'd remember a lot better if it wasn't midnight at the time of writing.
Suffice to say that I discover new and pleasant surprises every time I listen to this album, songs which previously seem unremarkable suddenly jump out at you and you remember where that mystery chorus that had been buzzing around your head for days originally came from. Good stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars career high 24 Oct 2007
Format:Audio CD
ok so a bit of history....up until this point in their career this band had been written off as mere nine inch nails and depeche mode copyists....then they released this monster of an album where all of the aforementioned statements were smashed into the dirt and they emerged with one of the best industrial rock albums to ever be recorded.
the main parts were all present and correct.
tortured frontman...check.....heavy guitar parts...check....lots of electronic bleeping and other assorted noises....check
put the whole lot together and you have your basic industrial template.
but what they did here that htey failed to do elsewhere was crank everything upto 10!!!
the riffs were perfect, the slower songs just drip with atmosphere and emotion, and that is where this album scores heaviest....the emotional connection that hall makes through his voice and lyrics.
he gives this usually cold and mechanical style of music a real human heart that you can connect to, relate to, and you do as he is singing about things that we have all been through and its evident to see merely from song titles such as "you complete me","waking up beside you","haunting me" and "desperate now".
this is a very real and human album which is a rareity in the industrial world and because of that it stands out as one that is very catchy and hooks into your mind and pulls at your heart.
a towering masterpiece of rock and industrial that has stood the test of time, instead of gazing at their shoes and listening to whinney tarts in checkers the kids should go back and check this out for real emotional power.
if you are a fan of nine inch nails or filter or even the slightly more EBM stlye of front 242 or frontline assembly i think you will still find something here to like.
go on give it a try and see how much of a shame it is that the band threw it all away with the next album and folded.

5.0 out of 5 stars We Need More !!! 6 Nov 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Having heard most of there other releases and having the advantage of being able to get friends from Westwards home country of Canada to send me there music, This one is a must for all you Westward or even poeple who have not as yet 'heard' of this band. There dark imotional twists, the feelings and passion put into the lyrics and the way the music come across is something memorable and haunting. If you like Nine Inch Nails then you'll love Stabbing Westward. It's definatly one for the collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars an amazing album 14 July 2000
Format:Audio CD
with this album, stabbing westward has again proved that they are the undisputed masters off writing powerfully emotional songs that at the same time can get you up off your feet and simply enjoy them. wether you concentrate on the lyrics or the music, it is an incredible display from an incredible band who have served their dues and deserve public recognition.
