Product Description

In this original enovella complementing the bestselling Septimus Heap series, DomDaniel returns in a hilarious escapade with the witches of the Port Witch Coven. The witches want DomDaniel's powerful Darke Toad – and will go to ridiculous lengths to get their hands on it. But first, Simon Heap must get his master to the Port Witch Coven's door, which may require a bit more Darke Magyk – and a much stronger stomach – than he bargained for. Meanwhile, ExtraOrdinary Wizard Marcia Overstrand has taken her young Apprentice, Septimus Heap, on a field trip to the Port. But what Marcia had hoped would be a fun yet educational outing quickly turns chaotic, for it slipped Marcia's mind that tonight is Hallowseeth – the perfect night for Darke mischief to go unnoticed among the revellers.
With Angie Sage's characteristic humour, beloved characters, and Magykal setting, The Darke Toad is a must-read for every Septimus Heap fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars An hysterical novella. 13 Feb 2013
By Pyewacket TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
DomDaniel makes a return of kinds in this superb Novella. Initially, he is helped by Simon Heap who has to collect his bones. Then he has to find a certain creature and take it to the Port Coven Witches. They help but only to their own ends so things for DomDaniel don't end up as he had planned.

Marcia Overstrand The ExtraOrdinary Wizard is out and about the same night with her Apprentice Septimus not realising that it is Halloween or in city speak 'Hallowseeth'. She is wondering what kind of Darke magic is around as there are all sorts of Ghouls, Ghosts and general nasties milling around. Eventually she realises what night it is.

The ending of this novella had me in stitches........I won't say anymore because it would be a HUGE spoiler but needless to say, the Coven Witches get a nasty shock after dealing with Marcia.

I have already placed an advanced order for the next book 'Fyre' and am looking forward to it tremendously.

5.0 out of 5 stars Only for fans of Septimus Heap 8 April 2013
By PollyD
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
There are currently 7 books, including this one, in the series but, as this one is an add-on, there will be 8 all in all. The Darke Toad comes in between Magyk (Book 1) and Flyte (Book 2). I would recommend Septimus Heap fans buy the book as it explains what happened in the gap between the first two books. Like the other books in the series, it is funny, has great characters and is very hard to put down as the story is very exciting. My only criticism would be that it is much shorter than the others and does not explain what some of the other characters were doing at this point. This book would not make any sense if read on its own. You need to read the first Septimus Heap book if you are going to read this one. I would recommend for ages 8 upwards (if you're a confident reader).

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect! 17 Mar 2013
By Molly
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The short story is a perfect mix of funny, cute and interesting, and DomDaniel is exactly how I imagined him to be! I adored the aside about the Elephant ears, as well as how the Port Witch Coven got their Toad door knocker. Alice and marcia were wonderful as always, and I especially loved the snippet from Fyre. Can't wait till it's released!
If you're just starting to read the series, I'd recommend reading it in between Magyk and Flyte, but it's great as a little standalone too! Angie has outdone herself again :')

4.0 out of 5 stars filled in bits 8 Mar 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is only a short novella, but fills in on bits that were not gone into in the main books. I enjoyed it and am looking forward to the final episode of this series.
