a really good read!,

What an interesting and fun book! I'm not all that interested in military affairs, the U.S. Navy, or submarines, but I couldn't put it down once I'd started reading. There are so many aspects of Cold War history that are just now surfacing - the NR-1's story is certainly one of them. It was fascinating to read about how the ship was created, how the crew was trained, and the stories of her adventures (although I got the feeling that the juciest of her adventures probably cannot yet be told). While the stories of her missions were fascinating, I was even more interested in learning about the crew. The matter-of-fact way that they accepted and dealt with their responsibilities at such young ages is really a revelation. It's also chilling to realize how close some of these men came to never coming home. I really think that it's a book that most readers would enjoy - it's a well-written good story.
