Product Description

Returning from a long and tiring battle, Sir Gregory (James Frain, True Blood) and his loyal men are handed one final mission: they must find a piece of the True Cross - the crucifixion cross of Jesus Christ and return with it as a gift to the Pope. However, when men start to mysteriously disappear, Sir Gregory begins to realise that he is not the only one with an interest in this sacred and mystical artefact. There are, in fact, demons chasing the relic - and now him - who will stop at nothing to destroy it. Filled with great action and thrilling special effects, Dark Relic is a must see.

Special Feaures: Trailer, Photo Gallery, Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound

There have been quite a few of these Crusader type films and they often tend to be light on history and plot and high on made up guff. This one falls somewhere in the middle but that is in no way a compliment. It starts with a group of Knight Crusaders in Jerusalem after peace has been declared against the Muslims. They buy a piece of the true cross and decide to take it back to the Holy Father in Rome. Relics were a big thing in those days and this was basically the mother lode, if you believe in that sort of thing.

Well they get a boat and head off to Rome only to be struck by soured water and food and then a huge CGI tempest, mind you despite the sailors being washed over board, the CGI boat remains thankfully dry - phew!

Then they happen upon a baggage train of pilgrims who are being attacked and aided by some Turks. The two unlikely parties join forces and soon realise that they are being smitten with a tad too much bad luck, the flesh eating locusts sort of rammed that point home. That is when they realise that the relic is attracting dark forces.

The rest of the film is a mish mash of bad luck, not so special, special effects and a half baked love interest that to be fair nearly works. There are no pitched battles here and only a few combat scenes that are so so to below par. The action is sporadic and far from exciting. This then is a below average film that had some good ideas but was poorly executed and even the acting was a bit startling in its over the top blandness in places. I wanted to be able to say some positives about this and the only one I can think of is it is not too long.

Pathetic storyline, very poor and unconvincing acting at times and abysmal special effects. Really unbelievably rubbish - went downhill from the start.
