Product Description

Josh and Ixchel have travelled back in time, but it might not be so easy to get home again. They've landed in the Mayan era, when the prophecy about the world ending in 2012 was first foretold. And they cannot believe who they have found there. Clearly Josh isn't the only person to have cracked the secret of time travel. But a bigger surprise awaits the pair when they return to the 21st century. Nothing is quite as they remember it - and it's up to them to work out why.

About the Author

M.G. Harris was born in Mexico City and grew up in Frankfurt, Germany and Manchester, England. As a teenager, during regular visits to her father in Mexico, M.G. became fascinated by Mayan archaeology. She made several trips to Mayan ruins in Yucatan and Chiapas and one such trip gave her the seed of the idea of what would later become The Joshua Files. M.G. was interested in molecular biology and studied biochemistry at St Catherine's College and St Cross College, Oxford University. M.G. spent several years working in research laboratories before setting up her own internet company. A skiing accident in 2004 forced M.G. to spend many weeks recuperating from surgery. She decided to keep a promise she'd made to herself to one day pursue a career as a novelist. Writing on a laptop next to her bed, M.G. began work on a techno thriller which combined her two intellectual loves - archaeology and biology. From this initial manuscript came the idea for a story featuring a young boy searching for a lost Mayan codex ... and The Joshua Files were born. The first title in the series, 'Invisible City' was the UK's fastest-selling children's fiction debut for 2008. M.G. lives in Oxford with her husband and their two daughters.

FAB READ! 11 May 2011
Format:Paperback
This book carries on with the fast paced other books in the series. It was an edge of the seat can't put it down type of book. I read it in a matter of days, purely because I didn't want to put it down. If you have read the other three books, then you will love this one as well. Also, I bought just this before my holiday and it came before I went, so I was happy with the delivery service. All in all, great buy!

Well in this book it takes a unexpected turn when Ixchel and Josh get together. I think that this is the most thrilling trilogy I have ever read! I started reading it on Holiday after I finished 'Zero Moment (The Joshua Files #3)'. And you know what it just pulls your attention and me, (Using my dad's account (Im 12)) I spent the whole day reading this book. I wish I read it slower because when I finished it there was nothing to do for another 2 weeks. So, If I were to recommend this book, it would to be to people who love a bit of adventure and finding new things out about the world. Dr Who fans would DEFIANTLY love this trilogy.

P.S. In my advice I would read them in order because if you don't, it gives things away and its a bit confusing because it is based on a complex plan.

Very unexpected 14 Jun 2011
By Andrew Dalby TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
This is the first of the Joshua Files books that I have read to my children and now I need to go back and get the others. This is not a great place to start as there is a lot of back-story that it is better to know, or otherwise the complex plot is quite confusing.

The story is told in first person form and sometimes as a blog (this does not make it a good choice to read out loud but that was my fault). Josh is a special boy who has been genetically altered so that he can read some ancient codices that give information about how to prevent a world catastrophe in 2012, as predicted by the Mayans. He is able to time travel using an ancient artifact and some people think he is a time travelling hero called Arcadio. Mix into this a sect who genetically modified him and that can also time travel to destroy the codices and a teenage romantic interest with a Mexican girl called Ixchel and you get some idea of the story.

The romantic bits are funny to me but my children are not old enough yet to appreciate how funny they are and turn their noses up at those bits. The combination of science and cultures is excellent but it helps that I have a Spanish connection and we have a local Capoiera Club, otherwise I would be even more confused about what was going on. It is exciting and it captures the children's imagination. They are always trying to guess what will happen next and that is the most important thing. It is a book where they keep asking for more.
