Amongst the Dark Ones there is one they call The Betrayer, one who is doomed to hand his own kind over to a demon lord... for eternity.

More About the Author

For as long as she can remember, Katie MacAlister has loved reading. Growing up in a family where a weekly visit to the library was a given, Katie spent much of her time with her nose buried in a book. Despite her love for novels, she didn't think of writing them until she was contracted to write a non-fiction book about software. Since her editor refused to allow her to include either witty dialogue or love scenes in the software book, Katie swiftly resolved to switch to fiction, where she could indulge in world building, tormenting characters, and falling madly in love with all her heroes.

Two years after she started writing novels, Katie sold her first romance, Noble Intentions. More than thirty books later, her novels have been translated into numerous languages, been recorded as audiobooks, received several awards, and placed on the New York Times, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly bestseller lists. She also writes for the young adult audience as Katie Maxwell.

Katie lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband and dogs, and can often be found lurking around online.

I can't believe I'm about to say this. But I have to be honest. I love Katie and it's gonna hurt me to say this, but here it is. If you read two of these books right in a row*, you'll realize just how almost exact the stories (and in this case, the heroines) are. You need to read these with tons of space in between as they were most likely meant to be when written. Otherwise you'll think you've already read it.
But, don't get me wrong - it was still a fun story with sassy heroines and nummy, sexy vamps!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Sexy Vamp Romance 22 Mar 2009
This was my first Katie MacAlister book and it certainly wont be the last if this one is anything to go by. It was a great vampire romp Nell was extremely amusing all the way through the book and instantly likeably from the start & the chemistry between her and Adrian leaped off the pages with extreme force and the sexual content well it certainly didn't leave anything to the imagination which was a refreshing change as so many authors seem to shy away from such details.

All in all I absolutely loved it and would recommend it to all vampire romance lovers like me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark Ones Series - Book 3 6 April 2010
By Sarah (Feeling Fictional) TOP 100 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
When Nell is hired to translate the writing on an antique breastplate she has no idea what she is getting herself into. It isn't her skills at translation that Melissande is interested in - her assistance is needed to help locate Melissande's nephew and rescue him from a demon lord and a Dark One known as The Betrayer.

Although Nell is reluctant to take on the task she is unable to leave the boy to his fate. As she begins her investigation she discovers that all is not as it would seem. Her initial fright when she meets The Betrayer is soon overcome by lust and she finds herself questioning everything she has been told. But are her suspicions correct or is she about to become The Betrayer's latest victim?

Although books 1 & 2 really need to be read in order I do think Sex, Lies and Vampires could be read as a stand alone story. I'd still recommend reading the whole series though as I've really enjoyed reading all of the books so far. I love the humor that Katie MacAlister has infused into the series and found myself laughing out loud throughout the story. Nell is a great character - she is fiesty, determined and when she sees something she wants she sets out to get it. I absolutely fell in love with Adrian who is a fantastic tortured bad-boy with bucket loads of sex appeal and you can't help but want him to be redeemed. This book really had a little of everything - comedy, romance, lust, love and some great plot twists that took me by surprise. I highly recommend this series to anyone who likes a good romantic comedy - especially if you like a paranormal twist. I can't wait to read the rest of the series!

2.0 out of 5 stars Ok if you fancy less fangs more formula. 26 Jun 2012
I love vampires and I love reading so my partner bought me this book as a gift. I was more than a little excited as I had never heard of MacAlister before and the cover quore 'Buffy...pleasingly crossed with Bridget Jones' really raised my expectations. Far too high it seems.

This book is almost painful, if we brush over the gaping plot holes scattered throughout 'Oh I can't charm...but I will just charm away this, this, this and this without complaint' we can focus on the worst part. The relationship, not only is it completely unbelivable I know that there is this habit in films from the girl meeting the boy to the girl loving the boy in about three seconds but books don't have that same time restriction they can build and develop the characters. As it turns out I don't care about wither Nell or Adrian. Then there is also the language of their romantic encounters, forced and corny, I actually got to the point that I had to skip those parts because they felt so disjointed.

I wanted to give this one star but that felt cruel, I mean at least it is readable which is a good thing seeing as the very worst thing about this book is that I hate to leave them unfinished and so at the half way through point, whilst sobbing in dispair it sunk into me that I would have to read it, right to the bitter end.
