5.0 out of 5 stars An exciting addition to a great series! 24 Feb 1999
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Lisanne Norman's Sholan series is one of the most engrossing I have ever read. Dark Nadir is just as engrossing as the rest of the series. It has a huge cast of characters with multiple and complex plot lines. Often in a book with that many characters, I have a few favorites and get frustrated when they arn't the focus and read quickly ahead to get back to them. All of Norman's characters are interesting and involving. I didn't even mind that so much of this book was not focused on the orignal characters of Carrie and Kusac. For great characters and world building as well as lots of romance and adventure, I highly recommend the Sholan series. I will be waiting anxiously for the next installment!

Everything I have read about the -architecture- that underpins the plot and about plot -design- says that the length of book determines the number of viewpoint characters. Ms. Norman goes -way- over the reccomended number of characters for the size of book she is writing and thus waters down the events that should happen to each. She loses track of characters and never seems to spend enough time developing any one character to the point I would actually feel anything for them. There is an almost total lack of description as we procede through the novel leading me to wonder if this was just a 600 or so page list of the events that were going on. With the negative things going on, I was actually hoping she'd pare down the number of characters by killing a few off, I was out of luck.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dang, that was good! 24 July 1999
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
After picking up the first book, I found myself hooked. I couldn't wait to go out and get the next book. I finally finished the series, and find that, yet again, we've been left hanging. And I find myself, once again, wanting more.

1.0 out of 5 stars One immature author
Lisanne Normon is a very immature writer, along with her characters and style. Nothing happens for the first 400 some pages. It was a terrible book.

Pretty good, though I am not all that happy about what has happened to the Kusac and the resolution of Dwyne situation. The new aliens are a hoot, especially the Primes. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Part of a great SF family epic, but not a starting point.
