I've enjoyed other books by Tawny Taylor, so I was really looking forward to this one. The basic plot started out well, and I thought that these were characters I would like. Regan starts out independent and feisty, and seems like she will be a good challenge for Shadoe, but, in my opinion, she folds, and pretty quickly at that. Plus, I just couldn't get past Shadoe being serviced by, and finally having sex with, his "slaves" in front of Regan - all while he's supposedly trying to convince her to stay married to him. I lost all liking and respect for his character at that point. Regan doesn't like it, but doesn't say a word to him about it. I just couldn't like a female who refused to stand up to this jerk.
The sex scenes and BDSM aspects were hot until I grew disgusted with Shadoe's complete lack of fidelity or even basic respect for his wife. I know that lack of monogamy is just a "vampire thing" with some authors - Delilah Devlin, for one - but once I encounter that in a book, I usually lose interest. Regan finally leaves him, only to take him back, actually feeling guilty for shaming him in front of the other vampires by leaving him in the first place. Ughhh...
Anyway, after initially liking the characters and plot, I was just totally disappointed with the subsequent storyline and character development.
