5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone should read this book!!!! 18 Nov 1998
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
'A Dark Horn Blowing' is the kind of book that is impossible to put down. The characters are described in such detail that I can relate to them, and understand how they feel, even though I have never been in their position. The main reason that I enjoyed this book is because it showed how each character was feeling about the same (or almost the same) situation. I knew exactly what the setting looked like from the author's explainations. I love the descriptions of Ornhest, the horse. I adore all the characters, Owen, Eelie, Eben, and especially Nora. She shows strength and loyalty. Owen is brave and Eelie is sure of himself. Eben wishes only for the best. I wish that there were a dozen books like this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars a haunting story ..for women 23 Feb 2002
Format:Paperback
This book has haunted me for years ..I first read it nearly 20 years ago and it's haunting magic has never really left me. I can understand that for some people itdoesn't work because essentially it is a story about a woman who loses herself. She does so for all the best reasons be cause she is caring for a child.. not her own ..and she forgets who she is and yet she senses that something is very wrong. The story is deep and rich with many strands and layers. There is a genuine sense of dread that pervades the story and it uses the resources of folklore to great effect.

5.0 out of 5 stars more than 20 years on and I love it still 20 Dec 2009
By Noir
Format:Paperback
It appears that you either love or hate this book. A lot of it's themes are adult ones, so I'd say that this it more aimed at teens than a younger audience.

It's also multilayered, so you'll get different things out of it at different ages/stages of your life.

The mark of a true classic you might say...

I read this when I was 13 and am now 40. I have re-read it several times and the magic is still the same as the first time. I love this book.
