Book Description

Imagine if Victor Frankenstein had got it right...

Shunned by his peers, hunted by the Creature, Frankenstein slips away from Ingolstadt and vanishes into the chaos of the Balkans. When he re-surfaces fifty years later, his technology has the power to grant beauty, strength, even immortality. A network of deals puts him in charge of newly-reforming Romania. It is quickly renamed Promethea, and the borders slam shut. Outside the country, wild tales circulate of terrifying augmented brutes, of young people Harvested for their loveliness and grace, of mind-shattering atrocities. The truth, of course, is far worse.

Tales of Promethea is an exciting collection of original horror stories exploring the world of the award-winning game Dark Harvest: Legacy of Frankenstein. Within its pages, you'll learn about the brutal Harvest, Scar Gangs, the vile Angel of Hasdat, and even the very origins of Promethea itself.

4.0 out of 5 stars The mysterious vanishing review rides again 1 Jun. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This is my second try at reviewing this book. I left a review here last week, but for some reason it hasn't appeared. Hopefully this one will make it.

I really liked the original idea behind Frankenstein, Mary Shelley's novel, now considered one of the cornerstones of modern horror. So the idea behind Iain Lowson's Darl Harvest series was intriguing.

He managed to get a number of game writers who are also excellent story tellers and prose writers to work on it, so it had a lot going for it from the outset. The stories vary in quality of writing, as is often the case with anthologies, but on the whole it's a nice exploration of the theme. Worth a look if you like the idea of Steampunk horror.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great collection of SteamGoth stories! 2 July 2013
By Abdullah Khalid - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
Well-written collection of short stories, some better than others but on the whole entertaining..
while the overall theme is dark steampunk (steam goth?) the stories are not single-themed, some deal with love, some with loss, most with horror and are generally atypical in their storytelling, there is no guarantees that the good guys will win, or the band of roguish heroes will survive their adventure into the dark forest :)
Some stories were like i said more special than others: I especially liked "The Immigrant's Confession", "Witness", "The Doll Factory" and "Way Out"
Definitely worth the price of admission, and i hope they make more books in this series :)
