After trawling the net for what seemed like an age I finally procured myself a copy of this illusive film - only released in the US but I am glad I persevered.
Dark Harbor revolves around the 3 central (and just about only) characters, David (Rickman), Alexis - his wife (Polly Walker) Weinburg and the hitchhiker. The Weinburgs grudgingly give the hitchhiker a lift to the port where they are to catch a ferry to a their home on a remote, private island.
As the story unfolds the hitchhiker returns to their already tense relationship which results in their world being turned upsidedown. Is this stranger who and what he appears to be?
This is quite an intense film and be prepared for an unexpected twist to the ending.
Fans of Rickman will love Dark Harbor.

I think what makes this film interesting is its ability to keep you expectant of what the ending will be like. And the ending is really unpredictable and I think the film makes you contemplate after it's already over and maybe evev create you own versions of what happened.
And Rickman fans will like it because you see Alan Rickman often there and there's even one scene (though brief) in which Mr. Rickman is shown naked...

I bought this film entirely for the Alan Rickman nude scene (I'm not ashamed to admit it) and I was actually entirely surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The film is very dark with the focus entirely on the 3 main characters. Rickman is excellent as the guy you're not sure if you like or not. The acting all round is very impressive and the surprise ending shocked me so much I nearly fell of my chair.
This film will not be to everyone's taste but if you are a fan of Mr Rickman then I definately reccomend it as it showcases his talents remarkably. There are no special features on this DVD however the picture and sound quality are good.
A definite favourite of mine, I would reccomend renting before buying as I find it a very acquired taste!

To all Alan Rickman fans out there (and you know who you are!), Dark Harbor is a delicious treat to enjoy over and over again. Rickman and Polly Walker star as David and Lexi, an unhappily married couple who are going to their remote island retreat. They encounter a mysterious young drifter, and give him a ride. He pops up back into their life and seemingly won't leave, and Lexi quickly becomes attracted to him.
Alan Rickman's character is supposed to be a class below his wife, so he affects an American accent; it's very good. He is partly a villain, partly a victim, and always fascinating. His now-famous nude scene is worth the price of the DVD. Polly Walker is excellent as the bored, socialite wife who strays. I thought Norman Reedus was miscast as the young drifter; he lacked the charisma to be convincing. (A young Kevin Bacon would have been my choice.) There are no extras on the DVD. Dark Harbor is an intense, brooding, absorbing drama with a surprising twist. Highly recommended.

Alan Rickman's dodgey accent aside (it changes from American to British between scenes) this is a brilliant film. The trailer makes it look like a really dramatic thriller, but it's not. It's quite funny in parts and all the actors are fantastic in it. I had to watch it twice after the ending made me want to go back and look for signs within the film. The standout has to be the always brilliant Norman Reedus. In this film he is utterly amasing.
