By S. Lloyd VINE™ VOICE
Format:Hardcover
This novel is inspired by the investigation by the Met police into the discovery of a torso in the Thames during 2001.
The first chapter is gripping with the terrible discovery of the brutal murder of an elderly mother and daughter at their home. Rhona MacLeod, forensic scientist works with the police to solve the case of the murders, a missing 6 year old boy who was with his mother and grandmother when murdered and the subsequent discovery of a torso.
The story is set in Glasgow and Nigeria. There are vividly described violent acts and the theme of witchcraft adds an eerie tension. There are twists along the way to keep you guessing.
I did feel that the characters were not particularly well drawn and was lacking in the sense of being able to identify with them. I felt DI Bill Wilson was the most interesting character with flaws and emotions that gave him realism.

Hmmm 9 April 2009
Format:Paperback
I started reading this and it grasped my attention straight away. But I feel that as you read on, you start to lose the plot a bit and there isn't enough suspense. Instead, there's too much character-building material. However, it does let us learn about a whole new culture, and much of the crime is described carefully to give us a complete image of what's going on in our heads, some bits are almost disturbing! Hopefully it'll get better towards the end of the book.
